The term "embarrassment of riches" is oft overused, but this week MW genuinely does have a veritable treasure trove of great wines from the old world. Wecan't remember the last time we had so many new releases from so many great houses all at the one time. Further to that we have some back vintage wines we've been able to acquire which would make a great additionto the cellar and wouldn't demandquite as much patience.
Let's start with 2014 White Burgundies fromDomaine Etienne Sauzet, one of the greatest vintages of all time from one of the Cote de Beaune's greatest domaines. This includes the elusiveMontrachet and Batard-Montrachet! There's also a tiny amount of 2015s from cult producer Vincent Dancer and Premier Cru Meursault fromPierre Matrot.
If Red Burgundy is more to your liking, then how about 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin V.V. fromDomaine Rossignol-Trapet, sexy Morey-St.-Denis from Hubert Lignier orback vintage Chambolle-Musigny fromDomaine de la Pousse d’Or?
The rapid rise of Barolo and Barbaresco continues and we have two of the best in Bruno Giacosa and Vietti. The stunning 2013 vintage is represented by both houses, as is the well regarded 2011, including Giacosa'sRocche del Falletto Riserva, rated 97 points in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
Finally, we love the Rhone and just because we offered some a few weeks back doesn't mean we won't continue serving up great wines from this part of the world. The La La wines from Guigal are amongst the most famous in the region and we have all three; La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. From the 2012 vintage theseshould be slowly coming into a great drinking window. Rated 100, 97 and 98 points respectively in Parker's Wine Advocate these won't hang around for very long. We recently offered Cornas from the heroes of the region DomaineClape and we've managed to pick up some Renaissance, also from 2012. Delicious drinking and great value from an undervalued part of the Rhone.
With such a huge number of great wines available we've put them all in a downloadable catalogue which you can find here.
