2017 Clos Saint Jean
Now in The MW Wines Shop

"The 2017s have once again emerged as some of the finest wines in the appellation"
Joe Czerwinski(The Wine Advocate)

Clos Saint Jean has a long history in Chateauneuf-du-Pape that can be dated all the way to the very start of the twentieth century. The estate was founded in 1900 and within a decade of its creation, they began producing. bottling and selling their own wine. However, Clos Saint Jean did not begin to earn fame until the 2003 vintage, when famous wine critic Robert Parker extolled the estate’s virtues and the rest, as they say, is history.

The vineyards of Clos Saint Jean are planted on 44 hectares located on the stony terroir of La Crau. Clos Saint Jean believes in complete destemming of the berries. The maceration period is long and can last up to 35 days. The Grenache is never aged in any type of wood. But the Mourvedre and Syrah are aged in a combination of one-year-old and two-year-old oak barrels.

2017 Chateauneuf-du-Pape
Usually $95 - Special Offer $85

Bottled at the end of March, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape seems fully recovered, offering notes of ripe cherries, cola and tree bark. It's full-bodied, supple and silky on the long finish. Simply a joy to drink and sure to be relatively affordable, it's the sort of Châteauneuf du Pape that will appeal to newbies and collectors alike.
Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate - 91 Points

2017 Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'La Combe des Fous'
Usually $199 - Special Offer $189

The 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape La Combe des Fous is full-bodied, rich and velvety, yet it also possesses more freshness and concentrated berry fruit than the Vieilles Vignes bottling. An absolute beauty of a beast, it delivers ripe raspberries and cherries, a gentle dusting of Asian spice and a long, long finish.
Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate - 97 Points

2017 Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Deus Ex Machina'
Usually $199 - Special Offer $189

With its more discreet oak and layers of complexity, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Deus Ex Machina is my favourite release here this year. Layers of dried spices accent raspberries and cherries in this full-bodied, rich and velvety wine. It's more complex and complete than either the Combe des Fous or the Sancto Santorum, longer on the finish and supremely elegant.
Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate - 98 Points
