Extraodinary 2016 Chateauneuf-du-Pape From Domaine Roger Sabon

Didier Negron has been the winemaker at this remarkable estate since 2001, and he’s yet to put a foot wrong
The Wine Advocate

The 2016 vintage was truly extraordinary for the Southern Rhône and is a vintage that readers should buy with abandon. This is the greatest young vintage from the Southern Rhône Valley I’ve ever tasted, both in terms of quality as well as consistency. I’ve never seen so many traditional cuvées achieve such high quality nor so many estates produce such truly extraordinary wines. While these are ripe, concentrated, and exuberant wines, they also show an incredible purity of fruit as well as weightless, sensationally balanced profiles on the palate. They are complex, powerful wines that satisfy both the intellectual and the hedonistic parts of the brain.
Jeb Dunnuck

With their pure hedonistic delights coupled with long, lithe and elegant structure, we adore 2016 Chateauneuf-du-Papeat MW. Today we have the four red cuvees from Domaine Roger Sabon, which under the control of Didier Negron is becoming a benchmark producer of the region. With Negron's hallmark style balancing bold tradition and modern precision in conjunction with one of the great Rhone vintages of recent times, these wines are not to be missed.

2016 Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Les Olivets'
Usually $79 - Special Offer $72

Made from 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Cinsault, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Olivets is a winner in this great vintage. Blackcurrants, black olives, licorice, and peppery notes all flow to a ripe, sexy, opulent Châteauneuf-du-Pape that has terrific purity, ripe tannin, and a great finish. It's a no-brainer purchase.
Jeb Dunnuck - 93 Points

Tasted blind, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape les Olivets shows gorgeous aromas of purple raspberries and garrigue. Full-bodied and even a bit chewy, it picks up hints of mocha and licorice on the long finish. It's a blend of 80% Grenache and 10% each Cinsault and Syrah, matured in foudres and oak vats.
Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate- 92 Points

2016 Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Cuvee Reserve'
Usually $94 - Special Offer $89

The same blend as the Les Olivets (80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre), the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve is similarly inky ruby/purple-colored and gives up a more dense, serious, backward style in its blackberry, melted licorice, roasted herb, and graphite aromas and flavors. With terrific minerality, full body, sweet tannin, and beautiful purity, it's a seriously good 2016 that's going to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and drink nicely for 10-15.
Jeb Dunnuck - 95 Points

Full-bodied and velvety, Sabon's 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve is a step up from the les Olivets bottling and probably represents the best value in the 2016 lineup. Tasted blind, it showcases ripe dark plum and cola but also super ripe Grenache notes of apricot and delicate hints of garrigue, then it turns rich and chewy on the long finish. It's 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, matured in a mix of foudres and oak vats
Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate- 95 Points

2016 Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Cuvee Prestige'
Usually $140 - Special Offer $129

The 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Prestige checks in as 75% Grenache and the balance mostly Syrah and smaller parts of other permitted varieties. Crème de cassis, olive tapenade, smoked herbs, and licorice notes all emerge from this remarkably pure, seamless, gorgeously refined and elegant Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It shows slightly more Syrah character, has a multi-dimensional texture, and a layered, elegant style that just begs to be drunk. It can be drunk today or cellared for 15 years or more.
Jeb Dunnuck - 96 Points

Sourced from the lieux-dits of Les Brusquières and Cabrières, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Prestige is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre and 5% other varieties. Tasted blind, it's a big, full-bodied, lush wine. Powered by bold cherry and stone fruit, it shows hints of pepper and clove complexity, plus vibrant citrus zest notes on the long, electric finish. Wow.
Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate- 96Points

2016 Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Le Secret des Sabon'
Usually $415- Special Offer $399
(Very Limited)

Unquestionably the deepest, richest wine in the lineup, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Le Secret des Sabon offers sensational notes of blackberries, cassis, crushed rocks, graphite, and bouquet garni. Full-bodied, ultrafine, seamless, and pure, it has more elegance and purity than the 2010 and is reminiscent of the 2001. It's a gorgeous, extraordinary, layered, seamless Châteauneuf-du-Pape to drink over the coming two decades or more.
Jeb Dunnuck - 99Points
