Onannon Mornington Peninsula and Single Site Release

You would have to go a long way to find three more more open-hearted and utterly committed winemakers; the world is their oyster, their ambitions unlimited.
    James Haliday

The trio of winemakers that make up Onannon is formidable to say the very least. Sam Middleton, Kasper Hermann (both of the famed Mount Mary) and Will Byron (Stonier) have cut their teeth together, coming up through the wine world working at many of Victorias greatest sites. Since 2008, the three friends have been collaborating together to craft superb wines with a focus on Gippsland and the Mornington Peninsula.

Today, we are pleased to bring you the latest release from Onannon including the Mornington Peninsula releases as well as the stunning single site Chardonnay and Pinot Noirs from Tuerong, Red Hill and Leongatha.

    2019 Mornington Peninsula Pinot Gris
    Usually $32- Special Offer $28

From a vineyard in Shoreham, made like Chardonnay – barrel ferment and lees stirring early in the piece. Honey, pear and cream. Bit of sweet stone fruit up front. Ginger. Density and nuttiness, savoury finish.
    Distributor Notes, Cellarhand

    2019 Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay
    Usually $39- Special Offer $34

It’s fresh and brisk, a little bit fruity and creamy, but fine-boned too. Some flint and funk, almond and preserved lemon, good energy and cut, lemon rind and crunch on a pretty long finish. It’ll be better again in a couple of months, like all of us.
Gary Walsh, The Wine Front- 94 Points

    2018 Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir
    Usually $39- Special Offer $34

Perfumed, bright nose with cherries and stone fruits. Nice, juicy core with a sense of roundness. Orange peel note and some chew to the tannins, which carry the fruit well.
    Distributor Notes, Cellarhand

    2019 Mornington Peninsula Shiraz
    Usually $32- Special Offer $28

It’s very purple, to taste and to view. Cherry, spice, grilled meat and perfume. It’s sort of like a bigger Shiraz-based Beaujolais in intent, I’d say, and fits the bill in that respect very well. A bit savoury, a bit berry stone fruit juicy, light chalky tannin, peppery and fragrant on a crisp and pleasantly meaty/herbal/pulpy fruit finish. Tasty. Nicely done.
Gary Walsh, The Wine Front- 92 Points

    2019 Tuerong Chardonnay
    Usually $53- Special Offer $47

This is pretty spiffy Chardonnay it has to be said. Chardonnay of line and length. It’s funky on opening but it quickly straightens up and settles down. White peach in all its pure glory; flint; the freshness of nectarine; the fibre of cedar wood runs towards nodes of wood smoke. The finish is a spinnaker in which flavour is held. We are in beautiful territory here.
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front- 94+ Points

    2018 Red Hill Pinot Noir
    Usually $62 - Special Offer $54

Forgive me for putting it this way but I’d describe this as a ‘true pinot’. It has a sense of in-built complexity that is outside of the norm. It’s like rhubarb and raspberry, beet and strawberry rolled through leaves and spice, but presented as a seamless whole. It has a gentle firmness to the tannin, an undergrowth aspect. It’s complex already but it has the future at its feet.
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front- 94 Points

    2018 Leongatha Pinot Noir
    Usually $62- Special Offer $54

Smoke, roses and leatherwood honey on the nose with glacé cherry. Bright and focused, grace and poise, silky but building tannins. Elegant structure and great clarity. Savoury finish.
    Distributor Notes, Cellarhand
