Today we are very pleased to be offering the new releases from one of Burgundy's great producers, Domaine Francois Lamarche. As well as the stunning 2017s we also have some back vintages from the cellar available. See below for details.
“I'm sorta kinda lovin’ what's going on at François Lamarche at the moment… Nowadays, they are fashioning just the kind of Pinot Noir that I adore: unforced, natural, elegant and very terroir expressive. Nicole has that “touch” of harnessing the essence of Pinot Noir, letting the wines articulate their terroir with seemingly effortless ease, a sense of transparency that is wondrous to behold.”
Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
“Lamarche is now a top domaine, with wines which express themselves through their subtlety rather than their power. Since 1999, and more especially since 2005, the quality has been top-notch. This is now a three star domaine.”
Clive Coates MW, My Favourite Burgundies

2017 Le Grand Rue Grand Cru Monopole
Usually $1649- Special Offer $1549
“Beautiful pink red colour, with enough density. The fragrance is very special here. Delicate but complex, intensely floral, not notably fruity. It is all in red fruit, ripe enough though the descriptors may be more red cherry and even redcurrant. There is a little acidity in the background but it doesn’t dominate. The barrel char does show through. Tannins present but fine-grained, just adding their necessary structural support. Overall this works very well in the incontrovertible Lamarche style. Long and fine aftertaste.”
94-97 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“This is also quite floral with its array of violet, lavender and rose petal wisps that add considerable elegance to the very pretty mix of black pinot fruit, sandalwood and lovely spice elements. The mouthfeel of the medium weight plus flavors is finer than those of the Grands Echézeaux if not quite as powerful or muscular, all wrapped in a wonderfully long if slightly warm and austere finale. This is a big but balanced example of LGR and should age effortlessly.”
93 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com
“La Grande Rue often seems to show a little reduction at this stage in its élevage and that's the case here. As one of only five monopole grands crus in the Côte d'Or, this 1.65ha parcel is a special site and has produced an intriguing wine that combines flavours of mint, cranberry and raspberry framed by subtle oak and filigree tannins.”
94 points, Tim Atkin MW, Decanter
“The 2017 La Grande Rue, the famous 1.65-hectaremonopoleof thedomainethat runs parallel to Romanée-Conti and La Romanée, offers attractive crushed strawberry, raspberry, rose petal and wet limestone aromas on the nose. This is not as intense as the 2016 but very focused and delineated. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, replete with filigreed tannin and a refreshing sense of salinity that becomes more marked toward the finish. This feels linear and almost strict at the moment, but it will gain more depth during the remainder of its barrel maturation. Excellent.”
92-94 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
2017 Grands Echezeaux Grand Cru
Usually $749- Special Offer $699
“The 2017 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru comes from 0.30 hectares of vine. It has a tightly wound bouquet at first – one of the few crus from Lamarche to demand coaxing from the glass. It eventually reveals some lovely raspberry preserve, wild strawberry and subtle Seville orange marmalade scents, all very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, and more structure and backbone than the Echézeaux, leading to a fresh and quite saline finish. This will need five or six years.”
93-95 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
“Here the wood influence is a bit more prominent and includes a whiff of menthol though both are sufficiently subtle to easily allow the overtly floral and spice-inflected aromas of various red fruit scents to be appreciated. While the mid-palate of the broad-scaled flavors is solidly concentrated but relatively supple, the powerful, intense and very firmly structured finish is quite tightly wound. This is also presently austere and robust and I would advise not touching a bottle for at least 10 years and it won't surprise me if 20 years is necessary to for this to realize its full potential.”
92-94 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound
“If you're looking for power and extraction in your Grands Échézeaux, you're not going to find it here or in any of the very delicate wines produced by Nicole Lamarche. This single 0.3ha parcel has produced a poised and delicate wine with sweet, savoury flavours, notes of rose petal and umami, and a core of strawberry fruit underpinned by acidity and fine tannins.”
94 points, Tim Atkin MW, Decanter
2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
Usually $399- Special Offer $379
“The standard lightish Lamarche colour, and you have to go looking for the fruit on the nose. Good concentration on the palate however, though with firmer tannins behind. Follows through quite well. Fractionally more muscular than the Echezeaux but not all that obviously Clos de Vougeot in structure.”
92-94 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“A background whiff of wood sets off the very fresh aromas of red and dark berry, earth and a hint of leather. The rich, full-bodied and very serious flavors possess solid size and weight along with excellent drive on the powerful and youthfully austere if decidedly linear finish. Like the Les Cras, this is going to require at least some aging to fill out and until that occurs this is going to be more potential than pleasure. With that said, my range implicitly assumes that it will flesh out in time.”
91-94 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound
2017 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru 'Les Chaumes'
Usually $259- Special Offer $239
“This is aromatically similar to the Vosne villages but with the addition of more oak and menthol influence. The sleek and nicely detailed flavors possess a bit more volume and density before concluding in a more structured and youthfully austere finale. In contrast to the prior wines, this is going to need a bit of patience and reward up to a decade's worth.”
89-92 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound
