Fluffy Hair Adair prompted me again. Says I’ve been slow on the Wendouree. So, now, only one to go after this – a 2011 Shiraz. Not sure how much Malbec is in this wine, but it’s enough to lift it above the quality of the straight Cabernet.
If there’s anything in particular I really like about Wendouree, then it’s their Malbec. Blackcurrant, boysenberry, a fair layer of cedar oak, aniseed, and that blue coloured thing going on – violets and blue skinned plums. Medium to full bodied, clearly defined with firm powdery, almost milky tannin, some subtle astringency on the finish, but all up a very good wine. It’s maybe the best, most complete, red I’ve tasted from this South Australian vintage.
