Laurent Roumier, part of one of the region’s most respected winemaking families, has gradually established a reputation for producing wines that reflect both the tradition and distinctiveness of their origins.
Laurent is the grandson of Georges Roumier, founder of the iconic Domaine Georges Roumier, and the son of Alain Roumier, who spent many years as cellarmaster at Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue. Early exposure to vineyard work and cellar practices at these respected domaines shaped Laurent’s understanding of Burgundy’s traditions.
His cousin Christophe Roumier now leads Domaine Georges Roumier, while Laurent chose to follow an independent path. In 1991, he established Domaine Laurent Roumier after inheriting select family vineyard parcels. The estate’s vineyard holdings include parcels in Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Bonnes-Mares, allowing Laurent to craft a focused range of white and red Burgundy.
Laurent Roumier’s winemaking philosophy emphasises minimal intervention, traditional fermentations, and gentle extraction. His goal is to preserve purity of fruit and clearly express the individuality of each vineyard. Compared to the wines of Domaine Georges Roumier, which are often more structured and built for long-term aging, Laurent’s wines tend to be more immediately approachable, offering vibrant red fruit, supple textures, and refined balance, while still retaining the sublime elegance inherent in the best Burgundian wines.
Key bottlings from the domaine include Chambolle-Musigny, Hautes-Cotes de Nuits, and the highly regarded Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, each showing the influence of its particular terroir. Production is limited, and the wines are often noted for their clarity and understated style.
Laurent Roumier’s work reflects both a strong family heritage and a personal approach. His wines provide an authentic view of Burgundy’s vineyards, shaped by experience and thoughtful winemaking.
