Nick Farr’s philosophy is famously patient—he believes it takes ten years to understand a vineyard site truly. For those who follow the evolution of the Moorabool Valley, the 2024 and 2025 releases represent a pinnacle of that understanding.

These are not "mainstream" wines. They are small-batch, minimal-intervention expressions of black volcanic clay, weathered ironstone, and the bracing sea breezes of Geelong.

The Italian Icon, Reimagined.

Born from the Farr family’s personal love for the great Soaves of the Veneto, this is a "work in progress" that has already reached cult status. Grown on a north-facing slope of grey sandy loam over limestone, the winemaking is a study in balance: 50% fermented in stainless steel for electric precision, and 50% in seasoned French oak for silken texture. A rare Australian expression of this variety. It is vibrant, textural, and hauntingly persistent.

While many treat Gamay as a simple thirst-quencher, Nick Farr approaches it with the same reverence as his Grand Cru Pinot Noir. Sourced from 20-year-old vines grafted onto 25-year-old rootstock, the fruit undergoes a 10-day carbonic maceration to capture a "perfumed musk" before being foot-stomped in the traditional way.

This is Gamay with a backbone. It offers the immediate joy of red fruit with the structural "density" typically reserved for the cellar.

2024 Pinot Noir

The 2024 Pinot Noir is a masterclass in site-specific viticulture. Harvested from an "exposed and hungry" north-facing slope, these vines must fight for every drop of nutrients in the ironstone and volcanic soil. The result is a wine of incredible aromatic lift and mineral tension.

60-70% whole-bunch fermentation lends a structural "sap" and complexity that allows this wine to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with its "bigger brothers" in the By Farr stable.
