    About the producer

The Oddero name has been tied to La Morra since the 1800s, but Figli Luigi Oddero as it stands today dates to 2006, when brothers Luigi and Giacomo Oddero divided the family's historic holdings. Luigi took with him 32 hectares across some of the Langhe's most decorated vineyard sites: Rive in Santa Maria di La Morra, Rocche dei Rivera in Castiglione Falletto's Scarrone cru, a single prized hectare in Serralunga d'Alba's Vigna Rionda, and Nebbiolo vines in Treiso for Barbaresco. Following Luigi's death in 2010, his wife Lena took over running the estate, bringing in Dante Scaglione, formerly of Bruno Giacosa, to guide the winemaking. Scaglione's protégé Francesco Versio, named Italy's Young Winemaker of the Year in 2015, now continues that work day to day. The house style hasn't shifted: native fermentations, minimal intervention, and long ageing in large Slavonian oak botti, in pursuit of Nebbiolo that shows elegance and structure.

    The 2021 and 2023 vintages

2021 and 2023 gave the Langhe two very different growing seasons, and the wines show it. 2021 was a widely-praised, classically balanced Barbaresco year, giving wines of real clarity and persistence, built to reward time in the cellar. 2023 was tougher: a wet spring brought disease pressure, then a summer heatwave pushed temperatures past 40°C, before cooler nights ahead of a late harvest helped Nebbiolo hold onto its acidity and aromatics. The result is a Langhe Nebbiolo full of immediate perfume and energy, all rose, herbal spice and ripe strawberry, and drinking beautifully right now.

    Langhe Nebbiolo DOC 2023

    Langhe Nebbiolo DOC 2023

LA MORRA & CASTIGLIONE FALLETTO · 100% NEBBIOLO

Sourced from the estate's lower-altitude parcels within the Rive (La Morra) and Rocche dei Rivera (Castiglione Falletto) crus, this is effectively declassified Barolo fruit. A briefer maceration than the Barolo bottlings emphasises freshness and perfume over structure, and ageing takes place in large oak botti. The result is fine-grained tannins and real length, with aromas of rose, herbal spice and ripe strawberry.

    Barbaresco DOCG 2021

ROMBONE & VALEIRANO, TREISO · NEBBIOLO

A blend of Nebbiolo from the Rombone and Valeirano vineyards in Treiso, aged 18 months in large French oak barrels and a further 12 in bottle. 2021 is regarded as one of the great recent Barbaresco vintages, giving wines of real aromatic purity, with vibrant acidity and fine, chalky tannins. Expect red cherry, wild strawberry and rose petal over a savoury undercurrent, structured enough to reward the cellar but already showing real elegance.
