Since joining the prestigious VDP (Association of Prädikatsweingüter) in 2023, Christian Hermann has cemented his status as a true perfectionist—a "meticulous craftsman" whose cellar is so pristine it mirrors the precision of his wines. While the estate has long been world-renowned for its noble sweet Rieslings and "breathtaking" Trockenbeerenauslesen, the 2024 vintage marks a thrilling evolution. Despite a challenging growing season marked by late frosts, Hermann has produced a collection defined by "light-footed playfulness" and incredible internal structure.
The 2024 Rieslings are nothing short of magical. Described as "delicate but complex," these wines possess a rare vibrancy and high levels of dry extract due to a cool, rainy summer that prevented drought stress. For those who value the classic Mosel profile, 2024 is a benchmark Kabinett and Spätlese vintage. From the "ravishing" Erdener Treppchen Kabinett to the "jewels of finesse" found in his Auslese, these wines offer a clarity of fruit and refreshing acidity that ensure they will age beautifully.
Perhaps the most exciting news, however, is the meteoric rise of the Dr. Hermann Pinot Noirs. Though Christian Hermann only began producing reds in 2019, he is already considered one of the outstanding Pinot producers in the entire Mosel region. His Pinot Noirs—dark, intensely fruity, and velvety—have caused a sensation as far away as Paris. With demand currently outstripping supply by five times, these "sensual" wines are becoming some of the most sought-after bottles in Germany.
