About the producer
Eric Morgat built his estate from virtually nothing. In 1995, at twenty five, he left his family's vines at Beaulieu-sur-Layon and crossed the Loire alone, buying parcels of land that had gone wild or been abandoned around Savennières. Among them a single hectare of abandoned hillside above the Pierre Bécherelle that he found in 2001 and spent over a decade clearing and replanting before releasing it as its own wine for the first time in 2015. Thirty years on from crossing the Loire, he farms six hectares of pure Chenin Blanc, certified organic since 2007 and biodynamic since 2012, on schist and volcanic rock with almost no topsoil to hold what little rain falls. He picks by hand, sorts hard, and ages the wines for a minimum of eighteen months before release. The result is some of the most structured, ageworthy white wine in the Loire, spoken of today alongside the region's very best..
