2016 Domaine Louis Boillot

Spectacular Burgundy & Beaujolais from the partner of Ghislaine Barthod

As the scores and commentaries confirm, Boillot did fabulously well in 2016, indeed I would go so far as to say that they are among the best wines that I have ever seen from him. Moreover Beaujolais lovers should not ignore those wines either as all of them are worth investigating.
Allen Meadows, Burghound

In the cellars in Chambolle-Musigny that he shares with his partner, Ghislaine Barthod, Louis Boillot produces some of the finest examples of Moulin-à-Vent being made today.

2016 Gevrey-Chambertin
Usually $134 - Special Offer $125

There is enough reduction present to suppress the underlying fruit that does seem ripe however. Otherwise here too there is a beguiling sense of energy to the medium weight flavors that deliver seriously good length on the mineral-driven and beautifully delineated finish that is also agreeably refined. Moreover this is wonderfully complex and examples of Gevrey villages rarely get much better than this beauty. Outstanding, Top Value.

2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 'Les Evocelles'
Usually $159 - Special Offer $149

Like the straight Gevrey, this is firmly reduced today. The mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is more refined still if a bit less concentrated and while this there is an excellent sense of energy, there isn't quite the same level of complexity on the solidly persistent finish. Lovely stuff and very Evocelles in character. Outstanding.

2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 'Champonnet'
Usually $224 - Special Offer $202

The medium-bodied flavors are both more powerful and concentrated though at the expense of less refinement and minerality on the driving and impressively persistent finish. This will need to add depth to merit the upper end of my predicted range but the underlying material appears to be present so that this can eventually happen. Patience required. Outstanding.

2016 Beaune 'Les Epenotes'
Usually $104 - Special Offer $96

A liqueur-like nose remains cool and pure with its super-fresh and earthy aromas of red currant and spice. There is plenty of sap present on the vibrant and well-detailed medium-bodied flavors that terminate in an admirably complex and energetic if mildly warm finish. As is usually the case this is not a wine of finesse but it's exceptionally impressive and should age effortlessly. Outstanding, Top Value.

2016 Volnay 1er Cru 'Les Angles'
Usually $189 - Special Offer $174

A relatively high-toned and more elegant nose features notes of red currant, cherry, raspberry and a hint of lavender. The super-sleek, indeed almost lacy middle weight flavors display more minerality if less density before terminating in a lingering finish that tightens up noticeably on the dusty and mildly austere finale.

2016 Moulin-a-Vent V.V.
Usually $55 - Special Offer $49

A notably ripe nose combines notes of pepper, red berries and plenty of earth character. The rich and full-bodied flavors possess fine intensity as well as very good energy on the solidly complex and persistent finish. This moderately firm effort is not only excellent but worth checking out. Outstanding.

2016 Moulin-a-Vent 'Les Rouchaux'
Usually $62 - Special Offer $54

Lurid ruby. Powerful black raspberry, cherry and lavender aromas, along with suggestions of star anise, minerals and licorice. Concentrated yet lithe and precise on the palate, offering bitter cherry and red/blue fruit flavors that are enlivened by a jolt of tangy acidity. Slow-building tannins shape the finish, which lingers with impressive, spicy persistence and resonating florality.

2016 Moulin-a-Vent 'Les Brussellions'
Usually $67 - Special Offer $59

A cool and pure nose of essence of red berries, earth and soft spice aromas and if this was served blind it wouldn't necessarily be obvious that this was 100% gamay. The sleek, delicious and notably vibrant flavors offer both good depth and length on the dusty and ever-so-mildly rustic finale. This too is quite good. Outstanding, Top Value.

2016 Moulin-a-Vent 'Plantier de Farve'
Usually $75 - Special Offer $69

The 2016 Moulin-à-Vent Le Plantier de Favre unfurls in the glass with youthfully reserved scents of pomegranate, dark chocolate, grilled squab and rich spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and complete palate with the most structural refinement, depth and integration of all Boillot's four cuvées. This is a superb Moulin-à-Vent that ranks among the two or three best renditions of the appellation in 2016. It will age gracefully for more than 15 years.
