2018 Burgundy wines offer something for everyone. The whites offer great tension and freshness despite the warm and dry conditions, while the reds are open and expressive.

Importantly, yields were good compared to the following vintages of 2019, 2020 and 2021, so this is an excellent opportunity to buy now in advance of low availability and rising prices due to low yield in these vintages (the devastating frosts of 2021 pictured above).

Domaine de Montille
The storied Domaine de Montille traces its history in Burgundy back to the 1730s. Hubert de Montille took the helm in 1947 with a drive and passion that eventually earned the family a place in the upper echelon of Burgundy estates. One of the rare Burgundy estates that excels in reds and whites in both the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits, along with many more sectors of the region with its sister petit negociant project, Maison de Montille (formerly known as DEux Montilles).

Domaine de la Vougeraie

Domaine de l'Arlot
This is certainly a domaine that works hard to produce the best wines that they can. They are one of a rare breed of producers that (vintage permitting) ferment using 100% whole clusters. As a result the wines are lighter in colour, but no less flavourful, indeed they usually show an extra level of complexity.

Domaine Henri Gouges
Although the family had been involved with the vines for very much longer, Henri Gouges formed this Domaine in 1920. He was soon looking to break out from the mold of simply selling his produce to the négociants and in the early 1930s become one of a handful of pioneering domaines that decided to bottle and sell their own wine...The domaine passed from Henri to his sons Marcel and Michel in 1967, before moving onto the next generation of Pierre and Christian Gouges, who in turn see their sons, Gregory and Antoine Gouges taking greater roles.

Domaine Denis Mortet
Arnaud Mortet is making better wines than ever... Mortet presides over an enviable set of vineyards, including a number of Premier and Grand Crus. Whereas in the past I found some wines excessively oaked, as evinced by a vertical I participated in a couple of years ago, nowadays the wines mirror those of Trapet: much more precise, detailed and mineral-driven, much more expressive of their terroirs.
