Domaine de la Pépière in Maisdon sur Sèvre in the Muscadet, is one of the greatest eststes of the Loire Valley. The reputation comes from the vibrancy and density of the wines, which reflect their terroir of mostly decomposed Granite, Gabbro and Gneiss substrates. His "regular" Muscadet Sèvre et Maine is always outstanding value. At the same time, his old-vine cuvées Clos des Briords, Gras Moutons, Clisson, Clos des Morines and his unique long-elevage wines have helped elevate the image of Muscadet for wine-lovers around the world.
'At its youngest and freshest (some also have a slight spritz), it’s the ideal seafood wine, notably with oysters, but extended lees ageing can create wines of remarkable longevity...It’s also worth looking out for wines from the three crus communaux – Clisson, Gorges and Le Pallet – which are subject to more stringent regulations in terms of yields and vine age, and which produce richer, weightier wines, comparable to more highly regarded Chablis at fractions of the price.'

2020 Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie

Very fresh always, with expressive white pear fruit. The palate is both tight and supple, although the feeling is very direct and refreshing. Fine acid underpins the wine - its lightly stony core with a fine cushion of elegant fruit and lovely lingering minerality.
A wine to drink over the next 3 to 5 years, it has a more herbal and floral bouquet than the pure granite-based wines, this 2019 is a beautiful wine showing pretty herbal, citrus, and white fruit aromas. This is a great value Muscadet!

2017 Muscadet Sevre et Maine Clisson 'Chateau-Thebaud'

A sample drawn from subterranean cuve. This is two years on from the cuvée just tasted, and is probably due to be bottled soon, although Rémi has not yet decided on a date. This is aromatically classic, with intertwined aromas of thyme, mint, vanilla and citrus pips. It presents a complete and very polished style on the palate, pure and substantial, broad and grippy, with fine balance. This is very promising.

2017 Muscadet Sevre et Maine Clisson 'Monnieres-Saint Fiacre'

A sample drawn from subterranean cuve, this likely to be bottled during spring 2020. This steps up a gear after the straight Sèvre et Maine cuvées (from different vintages and tasted at a different age, admittedly) with a perfumed nose of vanilla and orange pip. The palate is fresh and pure, full and broad, rich in the flavours of crushed white peach and white-rock minerals. Through the middle it is soft, warm and polished, with a confident grip at the end. This is delicious.
