Xavier Monnot is a leading producer in Meursault whose winemaking style emphasizes purity of fruit, elegance, and complexity. Xavier can trace his mother’s ancestors, the Monniers, back to 1723, with six generations of winegrowing. Xavier took over in 1994 after completing his oenological studies and began replanting parcels with a combination of selection massale from old vines and new clones, and updated the cellar with modern equipment. Prior to the release of the 2005 vintage, the property was known as Domaine René Monnier (Xavier's grandfather). In 2005, along with improvements in the vineyard and cellar, Xavier began bottling his wines under his own label.

2017 Meursault 1er Cru 'Les Charmes'
Usually $259 - Special Offer $239
Monnot's 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes is a success, offering up aromas of ripe lemons, citrus oil, honeycomb and a deft touch of new wood. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and nicely concentrated, with a deep, layered core and a compelling sense of completeness. While it will drink well young, this has the substance to evolve in bottle.

2018 Meursault 1er Cru 'Les Charmes'
Usually $265 - Special Offer $245
The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes wafts from the glass with a lovely bouquet of green orchard fruit, nutmeg, mandarin and fresh pastry. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, it's layered and textural, with a fleshy core, lively acids and good length on the finish.

2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Les Folatieres'
Usually $289 - Special Offer $265
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières was harvested on the same day as Monnot's Meursault Charmes, but it is entirely different in profile. Aromas of smoky lemon oil, mandarin, dried white flowers, spices and fresh pastry introduce a medium to full-bodied, satiny wine that's pure and fine boned, with racy acids and an elegantly textural profile. This charming Folatières will drink well on release.

2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Les Folatieres'
Usually $299 - Special Offer $275
The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières exhibits an inviting bouquet of citrus oil, wheat toast and spiced pear. Medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping, it's fleshy and charming, with lively acids and creditable depth at the core. While it's quite a precocious Folatières, I can see it tightening up with a little bottle age.
