On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, satiny and multidimensional, with tangy balancing acids and a deep, super-concentrated core that almost entirely conceals its structuring chassis of tannins. Unfurling in the glass with scents of dried rose petals, plums, raspberries, peonies and dark chocolate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with immense concentration, rich but powdery tannins and lively acids, displaying a strikingly complete, seamless profile and concluding with a long, pungently floral finish. "As I wrote last year, Duperray's 2017 Pouilly-Fuissé is unusual, in that half of the fruit derives from schist soils and the other half from the clay-limestone terroirs that are more commonly associated with the appellation. "Most growers sell their grapes from schist to the négociants, but I like the fragrance it brings to the wine—if it's picked in a timely fashion," he observes. It is now a year later, and the wine is performing superbly, bursting from the glass with aromas of citrus zest, pear and peach, as well as pretty top notes of spring blossom and pastry cream, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny but incisive, with a tightly wound core and a long, penetratingly saline finish."
