Since taking over the rein sof the family vineyards in 2016, daughters Elsa and Adele are creating some incredibly exciting wines. Their collaborative effort has ushered in a new era of winemaking for the domaine, focusing on fruit purity, fastidious cellar management and extended elevage. Beyond this, the daughters have crafted their own style that solidifies just how special the family plots are.

"Still in barrel, unracked. Pale lemon and lime, some citrus in with the apple here. Almost a Iime note as well, a more chiselled finish, white fruit, is going to take a little time, a wine to keep, which remains one of the great qualities chez Matrot"

2020 Meursault 1er Cru 'Charmes'

"A markedly floral-suffused nose speaks mainly of various ripe white orchard fruit, hazelnut and lemon zest. There is both better volume and richness to the beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that exude a subtle bead of minerality on the seriously persistent if youthfully austere finale. While this too could use a bit more depth, this wine has a superb track record for aging out well."

"Smoky notes of mineral reduction add breadth to the equally cool and airy nose of green apple, citrus and a plenitude of floral wisps. The dense yet refined medium weight flavors possess a positively gorgeous texture that carries over to the markedly stony bitter lemon zest finale that possesses not only stunningly good length but terrific complexity as well. This borderline tannic effort is very much built to reward extended cellaring and will need at least some. The word brilliant comes to mind and the 2020 version is one of the best recent Matrot Perrières I've seen."

"Still in barrel, unracked. Adèle’s favourite. Really racy fruit, with a fresh greengage note. Ripeness arrives quickly here but has clearly been managed well this year. The body is perfectly judged, a mix of ripe citrus and fresh pear here, beautifully judged, finesse and really long. Perfect! I don’t think I know a better Chalumeaux"

2020 Volnay 1er Cru 'Santenots'

"Spicier aromas include those of red cherry coulis, plum, more discreet earth and pretty floral nuances. There is fine density to the medium-bodied flavors that are blessed with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the firm, serious and built-to-age finale. This will need to add depth to achieve the upper end of my projected range, but the potential appears to be present. Worth checking out"
