Without a doubt, Tuscany is home to many of Italy's finest producers.
Two such producers who are magnificent exponents of the region's wines are Brancaia and Grattamacco. Today we offer the Merlot based 'Il Blu' of Brancaia and the Super Tuscan blend of Grattamacco. "Swiss couple Brigitte and Bruno Widmer, together with daughter Barbara, run this property better than clockwork. Podere La Brancaia is one of Tuscany’s leading wine estates, each year winning national and international awards. The winery is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone at Poppi, in Radda in Chianti, and draws on its own fruit from Poppi and Brancaia in Castellina. The vineyards have ideal south facing hillside locations at between 230–400 metres, planted to 6,000 vines per hectare on lean, stony, calcareous soil. Yields are naturally low, giving Barbara great ammunition in the three level gravity feed winery."

2019 Toscana 'Il Blu' Rosso IGT
Usually $219 - Special Offer $199
"The 2019 Il Blu is gorgeous. Dark and mysterious in the glass, the 2019 is going to need at least a few years to reveal all of its personality. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, sage, mint, licorice and new leather all meld together. This deep, fleshy Merlot-based blend hits all the right notes."

"Located at Castagneto Carducci in Bolgheri – Italy’s ‘cradle of Cabernet’ – Grattamacco has delivered remarkable consistency since the first vintage in 1982. Situated about one kilometre from the Tyrrhennian coast, the vineyards are divided by soil type into seven micro zones and farmed organically. As one of the region’s historic properties, Grattamacco remains the only producer in Bolgheri to stay loyal to Sangiovese in its flagship wine – a factor we think only enhances its distinctly Italian character amongst the Bordeaux-styled wines of the region."

2019 Bolgheri Superiore DOC
Usually $249 - Special Offer $229
"The 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Grattamacco (a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 15% Sangiovese) is a real beauty and shows very nicely today based on advancing vine age alone. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah vines show great results after seven years, whereas Merlot and Sangiovese vines need a few more years before they start to show that extra degree of complexity, the winemaking team tells me. This is a complete and beautifully balanced wine that shows soft extraction and especially sweet tannins. It fermented in truncated conical oak vats and finished in barrique for 18 months."
