After cutting his teeth in the Napa Valley as an apprentice winemaker followed by considerable stints at Mornington mainstaysStonier and Yabby Lake, it's fair to say that Tod Dexter has earned his place as one of the Peninsula's great producers of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
In the spring of 2021, a severe storm with 100km/h winds obliterated yields in the Mornington Peninsulaby up to 60 percent in some sites and 30 percent in others. Fears of accelerated ripening of such small crops were mitigated by mild and dry conditions in March, producing extraordinary quality. That being said, the latest release from Dexter is phenomenal but minuscule. Order now to avoid disappointment.

2022 Chardonnay

"Aromas of grapefruit rind and lemon pith with hints of white flower, flint, sea spray and fresh lemon.
Consistent with previous vintages from this site, the concentration and power of 36 year old Chardonnay vines on grey sandy clay loam soil is evident, especially in 2022. The wine has deep layers of pickled lemon rind, mandarin skin and crunchy white nectarine with refreshing acidity. It has a richness and thickness to the structure with hints of flint and white pepper similar to the 2019 Chardonnay. This is a very generous and refreshing Chardonnay that can be drunk now but will also age well."

2022 Pinot Noir

"Aromas of dark cherry, violets and rose petal. The floral notes in this vintage are particularly lifted and vibrant.
The low crop weights and small bunches have resulted in intensely concentrated fruit flavours and fine velvet tannins. The cherry, strawberries and black berry flavours dominate with more subtle savoury tones and exotic fruits coming through on the back palate. The fine grain tannins and well defined structure carry the fruit sweetness well with great length."
