Renato Ratti
"...Ratti introduced many innovations to the production of Barolo that are considered today to be standard practice... Perhaps Ratti's greatest contribution in this area is his map classifying the great Barolo vineyards, which is still widely used today as a reference tool..."

The rise of Barolo has been underway for some years now. Due to a combination of energetic producers sharing knowledge, employing more rigorous quality controls and utilising modern techniques and equipment, the quality of the region's wines continues to soar.
As with all things though, advances are made only by trailblazing producers who have come before. On offer today we have one such producer, Renato Ratti, who was instrumental in devising the modern-day Crus of Barolo that are so integral to the region today.

2019 Barolo 'Marcenasco' DOCG
Usually $169 - Special Offer $154
"Marcenasco is the site where Renato created La Morra’s first single vineyard wine in 1965. This single vineyard is located just outside the winery door, and the Marcenasco is Renato Ratti flagship wine.
Today is a blend of vineyards in the Annunziata subzone, including Rocche dell'Annunziata, Conca, Berri and the new MGA Serradenari, a combination that yields a Barolo of structure and elegance."

2019 Barolo 'Serradenari' DOCG
Usually $309 - Special Offer $289
"Ratti's vineyard in Cascina Sorello is located in a unique position in the highest part of La Morra. This MGA is called Serradenari and it's located a few km from Annunziata. The soils here are of marine origine with the typical blue marl. The higher altitude, 500m a.s.l. (compared to 300m of Rocche) and the optimal sun exposure (south / south west) allow for later grape harvesting. The berries from the oldest vineyards (30-40 years of age) are selected to produce the Serradenari Barolo, which has all the elegance of La Morra but with a greater "edge" and tannic structure better suited for extended aging."

2019 Barolo 'Rocche dell'Annunziata' DOCG
Usually $309 - Special Offer $289
"The Rocche dell'Annunziata vineyard on a steep hillside is considered one of the most important sites in all Barolo. Pietro Ratti calls the site a 'Gran Cru' of La Morra for its supreme elegance and aromatics, as well as the complexity imparted by the microclimate and the rare soils of blue marl with streaks of white sand. The 3.7 acre vineyard sits at about 300m in elevation with a southwest exposure. The altitude, angle and steepness offers vines the ideal sun exposure for the slow-ripening Nebbiolo."
