Adrian Rodda has been involved in making wine since 1998, spending more than decade at Oakridge Wines in the Yarra Valley. In 2010, Adrian moved to Beechworth in the North East of Victoria to produce a Chardonnay from the Smiths Vineyard, the oldest vineyard in modern Beechworth viticulture. From this older vineyard, Adrian make some amazing and varying cuvee's. On offer today and by in large the two finest that he makes, Thetriangle block and his Tete de Cuvee.
"The Smith’s Vineyard of Beechworth was planted in 1978 to four different blocks of Chardonnay. One of these four blocks is referred to as the Triangle Block due to its decreasing row lengths resulting in a “triangular” shape to the planted area.Facing South-East and consisting of just 183 vines, this block consistently produces Chardonnay of the highest quality. In the best growing seasons, the resulting wine is elevated to a level worthy of a single block release."
"In traditional usage, “Tête de Cuvée” refers to the wine of the highest quality.
Sourced from the Smith’s Vineyard in Beechworth, fruit was selected from the top 10 rows of the North-East facing Cabernet Sauvignon block and the small, low yielding Merlot block. In the best growing seasons, the resulting blend is elevated to the Tête de Cuvée release."

2019 Tete De Cuvee Cabernet Merlot

"69/29/2% cabernet sauvignon/merlot/petit verdot; hand picked and destemmed. Matured 12 months in French barriques (50% new) then to old 600L oak casks for a further 8 months. Deeply coloured and concentrated in the glass and boasting a classic cabernet-led bouquet of cassis, mulberry, bramble, herbs, leaves, chocolate and vanilla. Stands up straight, firm in structure in nicely measured tannins with concentrated fruit which has yet to fully reveal. It's asking for more time in bottle. Give it some."

"The Triangle block, on the Smith's vineyard, consists of just 183 vines. Whole-bunch pressed, fermented in one new puncheon and one seasoned hogshead, 12 months oak maturation on lees. Consistently a stand-out wine from vintage to vintage, and one revealing deep concentration and precision. A study in cool-climate beauty, of spring blossoms, citrus and white peach, lightly spiced and dressed in a nutty, leesy complexity. Runs deep and long, and oh-so beautifully in balance. A delight on every level."
