Adrian Rodda has been involved in making wine since 1998, spending more than decade at Oakridge Wines in the Yarra Valley. In 2010, Adrian moved to Beechworth in the North East of Victoria to produce a Chardonnay from the Smiths Vineyard, the oldest vineyard in modern Beechworth viticulture. In 2012, Adrian commenced the “Chardonnay Project” whereby he sources grapes from the Willow Lake Vineyard in the Yarra Valley and vinifies them in parallel with the Smiths Vineyard Chardonnay. In 2017, a third single vineyard Chardonnay was produced from the Baxendale Vineyard at Whitlands in the cool upper reaches of North East Victoria.
All three wines were hand picked and pressed to 500 litre French oak puncheons without clarification or racking for non-temperature controlled fermentation. Malolactic fermentation was not encouraged so as to preserve freshness and natural acidity.

2022 Baxendale Vineyard Chardonnay
Usually $49 - Special Offer $45
"Vineyard sits at 600m ASL, planted 1995. All three Rodda Chardonnays are made pretty much the same way, which is a good way to express region/site, aside from the Triangle Block, which gets a bit move of a push in the winery.
Friand and spice, floral, melon and grapefruit. Firm acidity, a little green apple, distinctly flinty and chalky, with something of a sappy-sour-edged, yet also slightly creamy almond finish of good length. Pretty tight, but very nice."

2022 Willowlake Vineyard Chardonnay
Usually $59 - Special Offer $54
"From 1979 plantings. south facing, sitting at 270m ASL.
Grapefruit and nectarine, almond and light spice, fine perfume. Cool feeling wine, zesty style with lemon peel, nutty and savoury, plenty of acid bite, but gently creamy too, with a fine chalk dust finish of excellent length. A little bony and discreet, perhaps, but has flavour and appealing texture. Saline too. A couple more years should see it right."

2022 Smiths Vineyard Chardonnay
Usually $59 - Special Offer $54
"From a vineyard sitting at 550 metres above the level of the sea. Small yields in 2022.
Dusty, cinnamon spice, almond, white peach, some vanilla. White fruit flavour, biscuitty, fine grip and stony feel to it, love the texture, and the finish is superb, a green apple tang to cinch. Terrific wine."
