"For those venturing down to Burgundy, their journey south usually comes to a halt around Chassagne, for thereafter the appellations are not quite as gilded or as illustrious as those located to the north in the Cote d’Or. That’s a shame. I advise heading to the quaint village square in Santenay and then the panoramic drive around the southern contours of the Montagne des Trois Croix toward the village of Dezize-les-Maranges. Here, you will find one of the best producers: Bachelet-Monnot. Brothers Marc and Alec Bachelet are producing exquisite expressions of both Cote Chalonnais and Cote de Beaune wines that I have regaled in previous reports... They just deliver the precision and terroir-expression Burgundy-lovers seek. If you have not discovered them yet, now’s the time."

2021 Maranges V.V
Usually $95 - Special Offer $88
"A slightly more deeply pitched nose reflects pepper and earth nuances on the equally and bright red and dark currant scents. There is both better volume and richness to the barely middleweight flavors that also conclude in a lightly rustic but more complex finale. This too could be approached young but it also has enough stuffing to repay a few years of keeping."

2021 Maranges 1er Cru 'La Fussiere'
Usually $115 - Special Offer $105
"The 2021 Maranges La Fussières 1er Cru Rouge was very complex to pick, the 5.5-hectares with ten different types of ripening depending on vine age and terroirs. It has a very mineral-driven bouquet, beautifully defined with more black fruit than the Clos de la Boutière. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp red fruit, a little leafy in style and sapid with a slightly peppery finish that might fool you into thinking there were stems in the blend (when in fact, they were too green to include this year)."

2021 Bourgogne Blanc
Usually $92 - Special Offer $85
"The 2021 Bourgogne Côte d'Or, which comes entirely from the domaine, has a fragrant bouquet with Granny Smith apples and fresh pears. The palate is well balanced, the 20% new oak nicely integrated, and is slightly leesy towards the composed finish. Fine."

2021 Meursault 'Clos du Cromin'
Usually $225 - Special Offer $212
"Outstanding. This is also firmly reduced and revealing nothing save for a touch of wood toast. There is excellent density and power to the larger-scaled flavors that display the robustness typical of Clos du Cromin on the clean, dry and persistent finish that is borderline tannic. This is also very good for its level though it is clearly less refined."

2021 Puligny-Montrachet
Usually $225 - Special Offer $212
"Outstanding, Top Value. Firm reduction blocks an analysis of the nose today. By contrast, there is a really lovely sense of underlying tension to the dense and relatively powerful middleweight flavors that are succulent yet nicely detailed while retaining the innate refinement of a Puligny. This is an excellent villages that is well worth your consideration."

2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Les Referts'
Extremely Limited $449
"The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru sports a very subtle reduction on the nose and fine intensity, though I feel this will require some bottle age to really open up. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip, fine substance here, lovely acidity with fresh green apple, pear and lime towards the finish. An appealingly bitter aftertaste urges you back for another sip. Classy."

2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Les Folatieres'
Extremely Limited $479
"The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has a clean, precise nose, the same level of reduction as the Les Referts, with green apple and light limestone scents. The palate is very well balanced, surfeit with tension thanks to the acidity, precise and mineral-driven towards the finish. What a wonderful Folatières, one that should age gracefully in bottle."

2021 Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Extremely Limited $1,450
"Pale lemon yellow. An immediate class here, the fruit showing its intensity beneath a lightly reductive covering. Class, purity and even intensity, this Bâtard of which alas there is but a single barrel, ticks all the boxes. A lemongrass note adds a touch of complexity to a brilliantly pure white fruit palate. Great persistence. For the medium plus term, but a gorgeous wine in the making. Alexandre tells me that his brother Marc thinks that this is one of their best ever! He may be right. Drink from 2028-2038."
