We've always loved what Luke does up in the Yarra, producing classy wines that speak volumes of the land on which they're grown and the highly likeable character who makes them. Since his beginnings in the 2005 vintage, he has become one of the most notable producers in Australia. Luke produces styles ranging from approachable, delicious expressions within his Crudo range to the age-worthy and sophisticated 'Yarra Valley' wines; none are more highly anticipated than his Nebbiolo, which we have his new release on offer today. Some would say this is one of the best expressions of the varietal that comes out of this country, and we would emphatically agree.

2022 Nebbiolo
Usually $85 - Special Offer $80
“For what I want from a wine, nebbiolo ticks every box,” says Lambert. “But it’s the ultimate challenge for a winemaker. The winemaking itself is relatively easy, but the variety is so fickle: you have to adapt your farming to the site where it’s grown, and it has such a long growing season. There are so many opportunities for things to go wrong; you have to be so patient.” Luckily, Lambert is patient: even in the cool, late 2022 vintage, he has coaxed beautiful, red cherry fruit and superfine, porcelain-textured tannins from this fickle grape. Deceptively light-looking and (relatively) “soft” (for a nebbiolo) now, there’s plenty of acid, tannin and stuffing here to see it age well in the bottle.”

2021 Nebbiolo
Usually $85 - Special Offer $80
"An Australian winery to receive pageantry on the cover of the NY Times for the quality of the wines, the vision of the maker and the beauty of the place. Gorgeous aromas: lilac, Seville orange, sour cherry and a smattering of dried thyme, anise, tea tree and scrub. Lacy tannins. Bright acidity. While Lambert posits that he wants 'more grunt', this is nebbiolo that proves that uncanny relationship to pinot noir that is often cited, to be irrefutable. Drink or hold."

2022 Crudo Chardonnay
Usually $37 - Special Offer $32
"From the first pour, Denton’s granitic origins radiate through tangy citrus, summer florals and some light reduction. A picture of balance and harmony, it’s tightly wound with mouth-watering pulpy fruit and flinty minerality offsetting the wine’s latent power and nimble, lithe structure. Restrained and savoury, it’s so delicious, yet also the most focused and refined Crudo Chardonnay yet."

2022 Crudo Shiraz
Usually $37- Special Offer $32
"Sourced from the Denton vineyard. Built as an imminently delicious quaffer, with a waft of sophistication. Granite. Soy bean, licorice strap, green olive, violet and a vivacity. Real life to this. A prosaic medium-bodied wine to an extent, but the life here is effusive and gorgeous, with a finely tuned bow of tannins imparting just the right degree of tension. Drink or hold."

2022 Yarra Valley Chardonnay
Usually $55 - Special Offer $50
"The 2022 was sourced from a plot of clone 95 Chardonnay at the top of the east-facing slope in the Denton Vineyard. The granitic soils are much skinnier here than further down the slope where the fruit for the Crudo Chardonnay comes from (clone P58). Clone 95 ripens earlier and to a higher degree than P58, and the vines, canopy and berries are smaller, meaning tight viticultural control is required to ensure sun exposure is managed and picking dates are nailed on. The granitic nature of the Denton soil is felt most acutely in the Chardonnay wines, contributing, in Luke’s words, “phenolic and mineral tension alongside stone fruit and river stone flavours”.

2022 Yarra Valley Syrah
Usually $55 - Special Offer $50
"An unirrigated patch of vines, still establishing themselves. A medium-bodied wine of ethereal scents and a savory structural latticework that brings the drinker back to chew on the tannins. Great tannins, here. Violets, blueberries, iodine, tapenade and saucisson, with a hint of dill, clove and something loamy and ferrous to the mouthfeel, imparting warmth and a strong sense of place. There is something evocative about this, even if new to the style. It all feels intuitive. It all feels right. Drink or hold."

2021 Yarra Valley Syrah
Usually $45 - Special Offer $40
"What a difference a year makes. There was no Syrah/Shiraz produced here in 2020—either Crudo or at this level. Simply, Luke and Rosalind didn’t feel their source produced the standard required for their label: “It just wasn’t going to hit the level we wanted so we decided not to push it”.No such issue in 2021.
It’s a Syrah of drive and power, possessing the signature Lambert lift, balance and perfume. Brambly blue and red fruits sit cheek-by-jowl with cured meat savoury notes and graphite-like tannins and minerality. The silky and velvety mouthfeel, energy and complexity is to die for."
