In 1998, at their Balnarring property, Tricia Byrnes and Kevin Bell embarked on a mission to cultivate high-quality Pinot Noir fromsingle vineyard sites.Their approach to viticulture is based on a deep respect for the environment, which they consider to be key to their success. The vineyards, situated on a small volcanic hill, boast diverse aspects and are home to a variety ofclones, which come together to create truly distinctive and delicious single-vineyard Pinot Noir.
The 2022 vintage release was a resounding success despite a 40% decrease in yields due to poor fruit set. After the dreadful start, the weather improved and stabilised, resulting in one of the finest vintages on the Mornington Peninsula in recent memory.

2022 Lodestone Pinot Noir

"Lodestone is north-facing and the warmest of the three sites. But it’s planted to the Burgundian clones 114, 115 and 777 (along with some MV6), and the soils the vines are planted in are rockier...
This is an excellent release. Taut, perfumed, meaty in essence but pretty at the same time. Floral. Its tastes of game, black cherries and strawberries-dipped-in-chocolate, the latter of which makes it sound ‘sweet’ but it’s not; there are so many earth/spice/smoke/meat characters here that it largely comes across as savoury. This will age but I’d personally drink it now; there’s already so much going on."

2022 Hommage Pinot Noir

"Homage faces north-east, is the smallest of the vineyards, was planted from cuttings taken from Main Ridge Estate, and – important on the Peninsula – is the most sheltered of the vineyards.
This release is better than excellent. It’s elegant and fine-boned but it has genuine power, most of the latter formed, assembled and employed through the back half of the palate and out through the finish. It’s a Pinot Noir for lovers of Pinot Noir. It’s modestly sweet-sour but it’s silken and cohesive, its black cherry, meat, toast and floral elements singing as one. This is my favourite of the 2022 Hurley Vineyards pinots; they’re all good, but this for me is the most complete."

2022 Garamond Pinot Noir

"It’s a smoky, meaty release with overt deli aromas and a reductive feel throughout. There’s a trace of bitterness here – hazelnuts and steel – but it’s a positive as much as anything, thanks to the fact that it helps to temper the bold (but mid weight) dark cherried wave of fruit flavour. There are mint notes here, and another round of meaty-leathery characters through the finish, the latter in the context of freshness and energy. Medium term, this wine will age well. It’s structured, and there’s plenty of in-built complexity for time to play with."
