Pierrick Laroche is currently at the helm of the family estate located in the village of Maligny in the northwest sector of Chablis. The estate has a rich history, established by Pierrick's father in the 1970s. Over the years, his father diligently acquired planting rights and gradually expanded the family vineyard holdings, which now span approximately 33 hectares. In 2010, Pierrick undertook the production of his first vintage, which received widespread acclaim, marking a significant milestone for the estate.
Today, we have 2 stunning Chablis wines from the 2022 vintage on offer: one from Domaine des Hates, Pierricks' own holdings, and one from Maison des Hates, the family's negocient label.

2022 Domaine des Hates Chablis 1er Cru 'Butteaux'

"Nearly 3 hectares extra. This is the first part of Butteaux as you leave Chablis next to Forets… Younger vines planted by father-in-law after some court-noué and it seems to be returning – 12-15 hl/ha in 2022. All barrel elevage again. A more subtle nose – quite direct though. Really a panoramic width of flavour here – silken, a little more apparent concentration/generosity – large-scale wine. Simply delicious..."

2022 Maison des Hates Chablis Grand Cru 'Bougros'

"...one barrel and one demi-muid for elevage. Candle protection used here, just above the section that uses the aspersion. Hmm, that’s not powerful but it is beautifully inviting. Larger scale – of course! A wine of generous concentration but always juicily melting with flavour at the edges. Clearly the most complex and changing, long finish. Simply excellent grand cru."

"The 2022 Chablis Vaillon 1er Cru Cuvée Guy Moreau, matured half and half in vat and barrels, has a cohesive nose with shucked oyster shells infusing the citrus fruit. Quite classic in style. The palate is well-balanced with impressive depth and elegance. Sapid towards the finish with gentle grip, this Cuvée Guy Moreau is extremely promising."

2022 Chablis Grand Cru 'Blanchot'

"The 2022 Chablis Blanchot Grand Cru comes from the top of the climat and has a delightful bouquet with apple blossom, white tea and light oyster shell aromas. The palate is well-balanced with fine depth, crisp acidity, and a gentle build to a sappy finish. Delightful, but only one and a half barrels were produced."

2022 Chablis Grand Cru 'Valmur'

"The 2022 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru, which was taken from tank where it will stay until February, is the final vintage before one significantly contributing parcel was pulled up. The perfumed bouquet has yellow plum and touches of pistachio, crushed stone and a touch of wild mint. The beautifully balanced palate has a velvety texture and a fine bead of acidity, very precise, with an utterly delectable persistent finish. One of Moreau's strongest cuvées (as usual) - not to be underestimated."

2022 Chablis Grand Cru 'Les Clos'

"The 2022 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a beautifully defined bouquet with yellow plum, wet stone, hints of baked bread and pressed white flowers. Very good intensity. The palate is well-balanced with fine delineation, very good salinity and tension with superb precision towards the finish. This Les Clos doesn't want the Valmur to get all the acclaim."
