After taking the reigns at Bannockburn in 2015, Matt Holmes has steered the Geelong based producer to its former glory, and the current release is stunning! Previously working vintages all across the winemaking world, this is technically his second stint at Bannockburn, formerly working with the winemaker at the time, Michael Glover, in 2005. Now in complete control of the winery, Matt looks to take advantage of his depth and breadth of experience and take Bannockburn into a very secure future producing delicious wines.

2023 SRH Chardonnay

"The 12 rows of chardonnay that this wine is picked from are unique on the Bannockburn property in that they sit on an ancient sea bed. They were planted in the mid 1970s.

The intensity of flavour here is significant. This is a rocket of a wine. Grapefruit, lime, lemon curd, sweet peach, tinned pear and pineapple characters come wrapped in smoky-sweet cedarwood. Acidity, barley-and-lemon-drenched, is prominent too, in keeping with the power of the fruit. It needs time for certain, but this is quite a wine."

2023 Serre Pinot Noir

“This is autumnal and sinewy and savoury and spiced, but it’s also sleek, harmonious and settled. It just feels right. It bursts onto the palate with red cherries, rhubarb, tangerine and strawberry, with inlays of dried leaves, pepper and smoked cedarwood, but it’s the soft-firm of the finish, and the way it seems to both dry and expand at once, and the way the juices keep flowing and fanning, that really mark its quality. This will be released in August 2024. It’s a top release, and it will mature beautifully."
