Luigi Oddero and his family's history have earned them a reputation as one of the region's more famous wine producers. The family's legacy dates back to 1788, when their estate's labels were first sold.
They are based in the commune of La Morra, specifically in the frazione of Annunziata, and the family owns prime vineyards in La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, and Serralunga d'Alba. As expected from such a storied estate, wines from Luigi Oddero are crafted using traditional methods, which sometimes include lengthy macerations and the use of low-toast, large-format oak barrels sourced from the local cooperage Gamba for their top-tier DOCG wines.
In 2006, after dedicating 50 years to tending the vines and producing wines, Luigi was compelled to leave the family estate in La Morra to establish his own label, Luigi Oddero. He took with him his wife, Lena, their two young children, and 32 hectares of the most desirable vineyards from the aforementioned communes. Sadly, he passed away in 2009. The estate is now guided by his wife, Lena Oddero, who has assembled a strong team that includes winemaker Francesco Versio and renowned local oenologist Dante Scaglione, a former winemaker at Bruno Giacosa.
The core of their DOC wines is sourced from their vineyards in the Santa Maria Cru, while their premium DOCG Barolos are sourced from a selection of the best vineyards in the region, including Santa Maria (La Morra), Rocche dei Rivera (Castiglione Falletto), and Broglio (Serralunga d'Alba).
