Envinate is four friends who between them cover more of Spain's viticultural edges than almost anyone else working today. Alfonso Torrente and Roberto Santana will be in Melbourne on Tuesday 16 June, and we are sitting them down with a small group for an evening of their wines and the thinking behind them.
Over fifteen years they have worked Galicia, the Canary Islands, Almería and Extremadura, finding varieties and places the mainstream lost interest in. The wines are precise, unforced and unlike almost anything else from the peninsula. Alfonso and Roberto will take the room through the range, covering the volcanic soils of Tenerife, the old vines of Tacoronte-Acentejo and the granite terraces of Ribeira Sacra, vintage by vintage, site by site.
