Thrilling Rieslings From Crawford River

Time flies, and it seems incredible that Crawford River celebrated its 45th birthday in 2020. Once a tiny outpost in a little-known wine region, Crawford River is now a foremost producer of riesling (and other excellent wines), originally thanks to the unremitting attention to detail and skill of its founder and winemaker, John Thomson.
James Halliday, The Wine Companion
John's daughter Belinda has been steering the ship as chief winemaker since 2012 and the quality of this iconic producer has only gotten better. The 2019s are wines of poise and precision with great expression and wonderful balance.
The 2010 Serendipitous Selection Riesling was a bunch selected Auslese style Riesling with 66 grams residual sugar and piercing natural acidity. This is extremely limited and our allocation is tiny so get in quickly if you are interested in getting some for the cellar.

2019 Young Vines Riesling
Usually $36 - Special Offer $33
One day this wine will become just ‘riesling’ but it will have to come of age. The vines are legally old enough to drink the stuff that comes off them, now.
It was the summery thirst quencher I couldn’t stop thinking about on the way back from the beach, today. All lemon-lime, sweet green apple, tart acidity, clip of chalky pucker, refreshment factor through the roof, barely there stickiness of Riesling fruit and a faint lick of kero or wet hay or something slightly savoury-waxy. Such a treat. Such a good riesling.

2019 Riesling
Usually $52 - Special Offer $47
I was only reviewing the2018 release in June of this year. Odd. Time moves strangely at times. Pound for pound one of the greatest wines in Australia, by my reckoning, value and quality. Again, great wine here.
It’s an inky, dense release with impressive flavour spectrum and sense of complexity. Indeed, this release is perhaps less about precision and velocity and more about quiet opulence, layers of fruit character ranging from citrus to apples to stone fruits with spice, herbal detail and strong, talc and chalk-like minerally charm (and texture!) in the mix. So much going on. A wine to really sit back and contemplate, while washing over the senses with a general freshness. Yeah.

2010 Serendipitous Selection Riesling
Usually $81 - Special Offer $74
From a parcel left to ripen and picked late, this has aromas and flavors of apricot, kumquat and tangelo with such impressive density to the palate and a long, driving showdown of acidity and sugar carrying a long finish.
Nick Stock, jamessuckling.com -95 points
This wine was such an unanticipated pleasure to make. Golden to the eye, with tinges of youth, this wine will surely continue to age magnificently. Intoxicating aromas of citrus zest, along with toasted cashew on the nose coupled with scented blossom & minerality. Citrus is front and centre, kumquat/mandarin with white grape fruit, a hint of yellow stone fruit interwoven through the complex, savoury layered palate. Ginger & lemongrass abound! Our hallmark, mineral quality shines throughout, with chalky texture from start to finish helping shape the densely textured palate. The fine, ever present acidity draws a line from the luscious mid palate to the incredibly persistent finish.
