Glorious Nebbiolo from Old and New

|
Today we have an exciting offer showcasing the distinctive Nebbiolo grape variety with two superb examples from near and afar, the new and old worlds.
From its homeland of Piedmont comes the 2017 Barbaresco DOCG of the cooperative Produttori del Barbaresco. This extraordinary collective is made up of 50 different growers and has been making exceptional Barbaresco since 1894.
From closer to home in the Yarra Valley comes the 2018 Nebbiolo from Jayden Ong. Jayden (sommelier/bar owner turned winemaker) has set up a small family-owned winery in the Yarra. Reaching the top 12 finalists for 'Young Gun of Wine' in 2019 and garnering some very impressive reviews of his range from critics, he is assuredly one of the 'new-generation' in the region to watch.

2017 Barbaresco DOCG
Usually $99 - Special Offer $92
The 2017 Barbaresco shows just how appealing this vintage can be. In 2017, the warm, dry growing season gave the Barbaresco an extra kick of richness that fills out its frame and adds so much immediacy. Sweet red berry fruit, cinnamon, rose petal and mint are open in the glass, but it is the wine’s seductive radiance that wins the day. Pora, Ovello, Montestefano, Muncagota and Rio Sordo are the main vineyards used for the straight Barbaresco. The 2017 is such an inviting and expressive wine. Don’t miss it!

2018 Nebbiolo Soprano
Usually $47 - Special Offer $42
The organically farmed, dry grown Chestnut Hill Vineyard is located on the south-eastern border of the Yarra Valley, in the Port Phillip Zone. The five rows of Nebbiolo were grafted in 2001, onto shiraz planted in 1985. The vineyard sits at 260m above sea level, facing north-east, on heavy grey clay loam...
Made with mainly destemmed fruit, and a handful of whole bunches. 18 months in seasoned barrels. Gentle winemaking with no additions apart from a little sulphur at bottling. Vibrant red berry, rose petal, beautiful tannin structure and acid profile. Traditional in style and weight. The wine has a long life ahead of it. Reminiscent of old-world style.
