New Releases from Meursault Master Francois Mikulski

Francois Mikulski is in the top Echelon of Meursault producers. His wines are bright, mineral, racy and incredibly fine.
With a Polish name and no traditions to keep in mind Mikulski and his wife Marie-Pierre were free to create something completely new when they founded Domaine Mikulski in 1992. The most obvious result was the labels for the bottles; far from the traditional Burgundian label, Mikulski wanted a label that looked like something handwritten believing that it is what is inside the bottle that is most important.
In the vines Mikulski is a practitioner of lutte raisonnée, a system of cultivation that is essentially organic and non-interventionist. Lutte raisonnée entails holistic and balanced viticultural management with primary focus on the microbial health of the soil and the biodiversity of the vineyard.
Mikulski's wines have star status and can be found in the finest restaurants and also in the edgiest wine bars throughout France, Europe and the United States.

2018 Bourgogne Blanc
Buy Now - $79
This is also ripe yet slightly cooler with its array of various white orchard fruit, floral and lemon-lime scents. There is very good mid-palate density to the plump, round and delicious flavors that conclude in a youthfully austere finale. While slightly firmer, this too should also drink well young.

2018 Meursault
Buy Now - $229
Hints of toasted hazelnut, acacia blossom and white fruit compote introduce sleek, bright and intense medium-bodied flavors that possess a beguiling texture, all wrapped in a complex, dry and sneaky long finish. This is a lovely Meursault villages that should drink well early yet reward mid-term cellaring as well.

2018Meursault 1er Cru 'Poruzots'
Buy Now - $369
A restrained but nicely layered nose blends notes of green fruit, exotic tea, citrus and an abundance of floral elements. As is typically the case, there is more volume and power to the bigger bodied flavors that possess very good mid-palate density before terminating in a moderately austere, compact and built-to-age finale. This serious effort is going to require at least some patience as it's quite tightly wound. Outstanding.

2018Meursault 1er Cru 'Charmes'
Buy Now - $369
Here there is enough reduction to push what appears to be ripe fruit to the background though it doesn't seem as though it will persist. Otherwise the nicely vibrant and generously proportioned flavors possess a finer mouthfeel though noticeably less power on the clean, dry and youthfully austere finish that displays fine persistence. Lovely and this too is quite tightly wound. Outstanding.

2018Meursault 1er Cru 'Genevrieres'
Buy Now - $429
A top note of exotic tea adds a bit of elegance to the cool, pure and very floral nose that reflects nuances of freshly sliced citrus and toasted nuts. The more refined, intense and beautifully delineated flavors flash good minerality on the graceful, balanced and focused finale. This is first-rate and particularly so for the vintage. Sweet spot, Outstanding.
