Hudelot-Noëllat has been given a new sense of energy since Charles Van Canneyt took the helm. I remember drinking their wines regularly in the late 1990s; they were enjoyable but rustic, a bit hit-and-miss. Now there is greater refinement and complexity, greater purity of fruit and the sophistication one expects from such an enviable array of Premier and Grand Crus.

2018 Chambolle-Musigny
Usually $179 - Special Offer $149
The liqueur-like aromas of plum, spice and dark raspberry are also quite ripe without being unduly jammy. There is slightly better energy to the relatively fine and nicely detailed medium-bodied flavors that exude a refreshing salinity on the clean, focused and mildly austere finale.

2018 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru 'Les Beaumonts'
Usually $425 - Special Offer $405
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru has a fresh raspberry and wild strawberry bouquet, accompanied by touches of leather and freshly tilled earth. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that frame the pure, lightly spiced red fruit. Sage and thyme furnish the cohesive, persistent finish. Excellent.

2018 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru 'Les Suchots'
Usually $449 - Special Offer $415
This is spicier still and a bit riper as well if not quite so elegant on the variety of black berry fruit aromas that are trimmed in very subtle wood. The velvety, generous and extremely rich flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract on the, robust, muscular and bitter cherry pit-inflected finale. As is usually the case, this is not as refined but it's definitely more powerful. Outstanding.

2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
Usually $459 - Special Offer $435
Noticeable wood is present here as well on the discreetly spicy mix of red and dark currant, earth and a touch of forest floor. There is excellent intensity to the larger-scaled and mouthcoating flavors that flash outstanding power on the focused, long and very serious finish. In much the same fashion as the Malconsorts, the supporting tannins are relatively fine-grained which prevents this from seeming unduly rustic. Sweet Spot.
