Domaine des Roches Neuves
Thierry Germain has lead the Domaine des Roches Neuves to become one of the finest wine producers in the entire Loire valley, and surely to become one of the top red wine domaines in Saumur; although, the Chenin Blancs are also more than remarkable.

When Thierry Germain left Bordeaux (his family owned Château Yon-Figeac in Saint Emilion) in 1982 at the age of 23, few would ever have imagined that this estate in Saumur would become one of the great success stories of the Loire. That said, its signature style has gone through several stages of metamorphosis over the years, as rich and voluptuous have slowly given way to pure, linear and crystalline. Germain now claims that he only enjoys drinking those wines that he has made over the past four vintages. With some vitriol, he speaks today of his antipathy for “body-builder wines,” those produced by recipe in an overripe, overoaked and overblown fashion.

2019 Saumur Blanc 'L'Insolite'
Usually $89 - Special Offer $84
The 2019 has a gorgeous, pulpy persona with fleshy stone fruit and lemon/grapefruit citrus pith. There's sappy minerality and a food-friendly twist of grip on the close. The finish is vinous and smoky with a whisper of nettle, a taut and gently powdery structure and a saline accent--which Germain attributes to the wine's flint terroirs. A super white Saumur. It's like the lovechild of a great German Riesling (wood aged) and a top notch white Burgundy.

2018 Saumur Blanc 'Clos Romans'
Usually $215 - Special Offer $199
The 2018 Saumur Blanc Clos Romans comes from very dense tuffeau soil and was aged for 6 to 8 months in 5-hectoliter barrels. The nose is tropical and floral – mango and orange blossom — with an attractive wooliness. Full-bodied, but fresh and light on its feet. Flavors of tangerine and rosewater develop with hints of crush shell through to the long mineral finish.

2019 Saumur-Champigny
Usually $49 - Special Offer $45
The aromatics are very pretty, filled with vibrant summer fruits with a touch of rich black cherry. It feels so pretty on the palate too, fresh and bright, the dark fruits wrapped up with a floral perfume, classically Cabernet, all combined with moderately grained tannins and fresh acidity. You won’t get many domaine cuvées that can beat this.

2019 Saumur-Champigny 'La Marginale'
Usually $109 - Special Offer $102
Perhaps more than any other red, Marginale encapsulates the metamorphosis of Germain's wines from powerhouse intensity to the profound elegance that today defines the wines of this Estate...Here, beguiling aromatics that suggest forest fruits, pine and ground spice lead to a wonderful fresh and fluid palate of tremendous class and length. It's pretty and fine yet serious and wonderfully precise, but the word that again keeps coming to mind is 'delicious'! Do not miss it.
