Vaughn Dell and his wife Linda Maurice started Sinapius in 2005 when they purchased 2.5 ha of underachieving vineyards in Tasmania's north along the banks of Piper's Brook. From there a labour of love ensued that led the couple to produce some of the purest and most elegant wines from the region. Sadly, in May last year, Vaughn passed away due to an undiagnosed heart condition. The wines below were made by Vaughn and finished by Linda with the help of two of Tasmania's most renowned winemakers, Joe Holyman and Peter Dredge. These wines are a continuation of Vaughn and Linda's vision of quality and sustainability, carrying Vaughn's legacy into the future.

Estate grown field of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay Musqué, Riesling and Grüner Veltliner...Highly perfumed with a bouquet of fragrant white flowers, orange zest, spiced pear, Turkish delight, and musk. The palate follows with wonderful layers of texture, both savoury and saline, with enticing creaminess on the back palate and a textured finish.

2019 Close Planted Chardonnay

Hand-picked fruit from a single estate vineyard in Piper's River. Made by Vaughn Dell and finished by Linda Morice with help from Joe Holyman and Peter Dredge. Majority (85%) was wild fermented and matured 12 months in 10% new French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered, 7291 bottles. It's impossible not to be sentimental about a wine like this, but that's not why I like it. Such purity and precision are why Piper's River is not just all about pinot noir. This cool site sings in soprano high notes of textbook white fruits, eloquently harmonised with classy French oak, carrying a finish of delightful acid line and enduring persistence. Vale Vaughn.

2020 Esme Rouge

100% Estate Grown Gamay sourced from our high density planted vineyard...The wine opens with an intensely perfumed nose, showing bright red cherries and hints of violets and wild fennel. Light to medium bodied, the palate is sweet’n’silky, full of juicy pomegranates, with fine/chalky tannins. This wine has great length and persistence, with a wonderful fine spice and lively acidity to finish. Please store or cellar below 16° to ensure optimal drinking.

2019 Close Planted Pinot Noir

Dark red fruits, undergrowth and graphite notes on the nose. The palate is long with intense red fruits, dark berries, cured meats and blood plums, interwoven with fragrant cloves, fine spice and wonderful minerality. The chalky, mouth coating tannins are fine and persistent. A powerful wine with great length and tension. Drink now (decanting recommended) or cellar up to 2030.
