Chiara Boschis

Chiara Boschis's 2017 Barolos are among the most successful wines of the vintage. In 2017, the Cannubi and Mosconi are especially fine, but it has gotten very hard to choose here. Boschis was among the growers who credited anti-hail netting as having the added benefit of protecting fruit from intense heat and light. In recent years, Boschis has settled comfortably into a style that takes the best elements of both traditional and more modern approaches. The wines are aged in a combination of cask and smaller neutral French oak, with a preference for cask for the more delicate wines of Barolo and smaller barrels for the firmer wines of Monforte and Serralunga...

2020 Dolcetto d'Alba 'Chiara Boschis' DOC
Usually $52 - Special Offer $47

The Dolcetto grape we produce comes from our own vineyards, where we find soils typical of the Elveziano territory (of an older formation, calcareous-clayey with a faded color towards very light gray and pink. In alternation we also find siliceous sandstones, carbonate of calcium and iron.) The color is intense ruby red with purple reflections. The persistent floral and fruity aromas of violet and small red fruits give it a pleasant immediacy. The contained tannins and the balanced and elegant structure make it the "everyday wine" par excellence, satisfying without being too demanding.

2019 Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Chiara Boschis' DOC
Usually $72 - Special Offer $67

Our Barbera d'Alba Superiore derives from the vinification of Barbera grapes, coming from our own vineyards. These are vineyards planted on Elvezian soils, which give structure and elegance enhanced by aging in wood for about 1 year. The color is intense ruby red, tending to purple and purple. On the nose there are vinous hints of red and black fruits such as cherry, plum and blackberry. The palate is full and robust with a pleasant taste of the typical red and black fruits, and a pleasant sensation of freshness.

2019 Langhe Nebbiolo 'Chiara Boschis' DOC
Usually $89 - Special Offer $84

From the most important vine of the Langa comes a wine that is an introduction to the King of Wines. The grapes come from a dedicated vineyard and from the so-called buffer zones: rows bordering on non-organic vineyards of other producers. It has a ruby red color, tending to garnet and with purple reflections. The nose is sweet and fruity. In the mouth, non-invasive tannins balanced by acidity.

2017 Barolo 'Via Nuova Chiara Boschis' DOCG
Usually $199 - Special Offer $189

The 2017 Barolo Via Nuova is stellar. In 2017, the Via Nuova is a bit nervous, the sign of a Barolo that is going to need a number of years to unwind. Bright red-toned fruit, chalk, crushed rocks, mint and white pepper add pretty aromatic top notes. As always, the Via Nuova is the most taut Barolo in the range. Via Nuova is a blend of seven vineyard sites; Terlo, Paiagallo and Liste (in Barolo); Ravera and Mosconi (in Monforte); and Gabutti and Baudana (in Serralunga).

2017 Barolo 'Mosconi Chiara Boschis' DOCG
750 ml Usually $229 - Special Offer $219

Magnum Usually $499 - Special Offer $475

The 2017 Barolo Mosconi is a powerful, brooding wine. Black cherry, gravel, dried herbs, scorched earth, spice and leather add to an impression of gravitas. This is an especially somber, potent Barolo that needs time to soften. Even so, it will always be a brute. The substantial finish is a thing of beauty. The Barolo Mosconi emerges from the estates oldest vines, which are 70-80 years old, and is aged in barrique.

2017 Barolo 'Cannubi Chiara Boschis' DOCG
Usually $279 - Special Offer $259

The Barolo Cannubi is absolutely gorgeous in 2017. Hot and brutally dry conditions notwithstanding, the Cannubi is creamy and sensual in the glass, with impeccable balance, soft, racy edges and tons of allure. It is easily one of the most sensual, compelling Barolos of the year. Ripe dark red/purplish fruit, spice, mint and cedar meld into the beautifully textured, resonant finish. I am so impressed with the wine's freshness. Perhaps the anti-hail netting helped keep some shade on the fruit. What a wine.
