After notching up 46 vintages across the globe between them, Charlie Seppelt and Skye Salter launched somewhat of a passion project in Paralian wines. With a focus on modern winemaking that offers immense fragrance and drinkability, this duo seeks to craft wines that celebrate distinguished sites in McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. 2020 Marmont Vineyard Grenache

A very bright and brambly nose with raspberry and blackberry, as well as some cassis aromas. I like the purity and freshness here. The palate has plenty of smooth-toned, fleshy raspberry and some darker-fruit flavors, too. Very vibrant finish, holding super fresh. From 1960s plantings, fermented as 20% whole clusters. Drink over the next seven years.

Cherry pie, raspberry, hazelnuts, spice and dried flower perfume. Medium-bodied, beautiful emery tannin, a distinctly ‘mineral’ feel to this wine, flavoursome yet trim, long cool finish, layers of tannin, spice and perfume trailing. Outstanding..

2020 Springs Hill Shiraz

Intense dark-plum and blueberry aromas here with a slate-like edge, as well as bracken and graphite. The palate has plenty of fruit weight and dark-stony, savory flavors, as well as notes of dark chocolate, grilled meat and pepper. This has ample flesh and doesn’t shy away from tannin. Very savory and complex. Such an interesting young shiraz. From vines planted in 1998. Drink over the next eight years.

Panforte’ encapsulates it pretty well with all the nuts, chocolate and spice this offers. I love panforte. Aside that, blueberry and fresh blackberry with a grilled meat character. Medium-bodied, juicy dark berries with a meaty savoury edge, firm chamois-like grip to tannin, perfume and ripe raspberry on long fresh finish. Beautiful expression of Shiraz, and well done for not calling it ‘Syrah’.
