2019 Domaine de Marcoux
The 2019s here are simply gorgeous and among a handful of the best wines of the vintage. They exhibit a compelling blend of richness and energy, with fine detail and alluring perfume. While the 2019 Vieilles Vignes is definitely in the running for wine of the vintage, the regular bottling is also one of the very best of that category. From a value standpoint, it’s a killer.

One of the French pioneers of biodynamic viticulture - this tiny, artisanal Domaine was the first in Châteauneuf to convert to biodynamics some 30 years ago. Since this time (and especially since 1996 when the Armenier sisters took full control), Domaine de Marcoux has been on a steady path to becoming one of the true greats of the region. Despite this, it remains small, only producing between two to four thousand cases for the world (roughly half the production of DRC and a tenth of Beaucastel, to put things in perspective). So, for many, Marcoux remains a hidden treasure.

NV Vin de France 'Raisin de Loup'
Usually $32 - Special Offer $28
Sophie Armenier explains that with this wine she wants to craft, first and foremost, a delicious, everyday red. With natural fermentation and aging in cement vats, there’s only a gentle extraction and no oak influence.
From the 2019 (labelled as NV) you can expect a fresh, punchy and eminently gluggable wine that delivers waves of earthy plum, raspberry compote and fruity fig notes. There are some lovely, powdery tannins and a spicy, generous, Southern Rhône close. Bright acidity keeps everything fresh and vibrant. Armenier calls this her “Petit Rhône”. We call it a bargain.

2020 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc
Usually $159 - Special Offer $145
Quite a full yellow robe; the bouquet is deep but not yet out, has a layered nature, peach, flan airs, some ripe sweetness. The palate is a grounded do, broad and genuine, a true Southern child, has accumulated good richness with a touch of tannin on the second half, which gives it shape, useful direction. This really speaks of its place, with garrigue, gorse notes into the finish.

2019 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge
Usually $149 - Special Offer $140
Bright ruby. Vibrant, spice-accented aromas of raspberry and cherry liqueur, incense and pungent flowers are accompanied by a smoky mineral nuance that builds in the glass. Deep-pitched yet impressively lively as well, offering intense red and dark berry liqueur and floral pastille flavors that stain the palate and show superb clarity and minerally lift. Closes extremely long, focused and lively, with silky tannins framing the wine’s sweet fruit. This is about as good as a "basic" Châteauneuf gets.

2019 Chateauneuf-du-Pape V.V
Usually $369 - Special Offer $335
Saturated ruby. A heady, impressively complex bouquet evokes ripe red fruits, candied flowers, garrigue and incense, along with exotic spice and mineral notes that build with air. Utterly stains the palate with vibrant raspberry liqueur, cherry cola, licorice and fruitcake flavors that are sharpened by a jolt of spiciness on the back half. Polished tannins add gentle grip to the strikingly long, floral-dominated finish, which shows no rough edges.
