Le Domaine d'Henri
It’s no exaggeration to say that Michel Laroche is defined by Chablis in the same way that Michel Chapoutier is by the northern Rhone, or Olivier Humbrecht by Alsace.

After 45 years at the helm of Domaine Laroche, Michel Laroche embarked on a new project with Margaux, his daughter. Beginning with the 2012 vintage, Domaine d’Henri is named after Michel’s father, Henri. Michel and Margaux have reclaimed the Laroche family vineyards of 22 hct, which includes 17 plots across Petit Chablis, Chablis, 1er Cru Fourchaume and Beauroy. Perhaps their pièce de résistance is the vineyard holdings in the 1er Cru of Fourchaume with its escarpment of Kimmeridgian bedrock flows North through the Grand Cru sites situated just a km or so south. Margaux is very passionate about organics and is hopes for certification from the 2020 vintage. She is also forging her path in winemaking philosophy, working with natural yeasts (pied de cuve), 100% malolactic on all cuvees and varying degrees of oak for the village and Premier Crus.

2019 Chablis 'Saint Pierre'
Usually $65 - Special Offer $60
Just about to be bottled, and sulphured the day before I tasted. 20% barrel fermented. Lemon rather than lime and in fact the fruit on the nose has not been stunned. This is precise, pure, lively, balanced with a good volume of fruit behind, a little more flesh at the back perhaps the wood speaking. Very good length.

2017 Chablis 1er Cru 'Fourchaume' Heritage
Usually $134 - Special Offer $124
The Cuvée Héritage is dedicated to the memory of Henri. Hand harvested and hand selected, this is a “première trie”, or selection, of the finest grapes from the oldest parcel of vines, planted in 1937, now over 80 years old. Vinified and aged in stainless steel tanks (63%) and 228-litre oak barrels (37%), this is an elegant, precise yet racy wine, that expresses the tension and refreshing minerality associated with the great Chablis terroirs. For Henri, this was the purest expression of the Chardonnay grape. The production is limited to only a few thousand bottles per year and the volume will vary each year, depending on the quality of the vintage.
