Armand Heitz
Yet another young and talented winemaker enters the fore of the world of Burgundy.
|
|
|
This family domain's history in Burgundy stretches as far back as 1857 when Armand's great grandfather purchased a significant amount of premium grape growing land. Passed down the generations, it has now fallen to Armand to take the reigns and make it his own. In doing so, Armand has made tremendous progress towards biodynamic practices with a steadfast devotion to the holistic care of the land that goes beyond simply farming grapes.
This fastidiousness translates seamlessly into Armand's wine. Bright and energetic, these delicious wines embody the Cote de Beaune terroir but come in extremely limited supply.

2020 Bourgogne Blanc
Usually $59 - Special Offer $54
Taken from plots adjacent to some of the regions most distinguished vineyards, the Chardonnay that makes up Armand Heitz's Bourgogne Blanc hails from the appelations of Saint-Aubin, Meursault and Pommard. The grounds here are endowed with silt-clay soils that bring forth a rich and aromatic style of Bourgogne Blanc.

2019 Chassagne-Montrachet
Usually $149 - Special Offer $142
The stunning hillside of Chassagne-Montrachet offers a favourable outlook for the development of its grapes. In addition, the varied soil types of the region allow for great diversities in style. The slopes where Armand Heitz's vines lay are mostly made up of stony and calcareous substrates that emphasise intense floral and mineral characteristics.

2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Maltroie'
Usually $209 - Special Offer $195
Layered aromas are comprised by notes of pear, apple, citrus confit and a whiff of petrol. The supple yet nicely detailed medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing mouthfeel while delivering fine length on the balanced, clean and dry finale. This moderately structured effort is not a wine of refinement (Maltroie rarely is) but it is refreshing and inviting. Outstanding.

2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Morgeot'
Usually $209 - Special Offer $195
From Le Petit Clos.
Solid mid yellow, more promising nose here than Chenevottes, all in balance. This represents the solid style of Morgeot, albeit from the upper part. More tension comes right at the back, some lime notes infusing the predominantly yellow fruit, medium weight and good length. Promise from the Petits Clos.

2019 Meursault 'Gruyaches'
Usually $164 - Special Offer $154
A small part of the crop was lost to frost here. The nose is tight and concentrated, not too much on show to begin with. The fruit on the palate however is relatively speaking in the massive style here, filling the mouth towards the back. A generous Meursault, but a little less in place than La Barre today.

2019 Meursault 'La Barre'
Usually $164 - Special Offer $154
Slightly riper though still attractively fresh aromas include those of hazelnut, various white orchard fruit and subtle acacia blossom nuances. The delicious, round and fleshy middle weight flavors possess much better depth and solid persistence on the balanced finish. Lovely and very Meursault. Outstanding.

2017 Meursault 1er Cru 'Perrieres'
Usually $319 - Special Offer $309
As of 2019, all wines will now be labelled under the one domaine name; Armand Heitz
A broad-ranging nose flashes an abundance of citrus nuances as well as ample floral wisps on the green apple and mineral-reduction inflected aromas. The mouth feel of the middle weight flavors is at once racy yet seductive with excellent minerality suffusing the dry, classy and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is lovely and a classic example of the vineyard.

2019 Meursault 1er Cru 'Perrieres'
Usually $379 - Special Offer $359
A broad array of citrus elements adds freshness to the beautifully layered aromas of floral and exotic tea. The racy and almost painfully intense medium weight flavors exude evident minerality on the finely detailed, bone-dry and youthfully austere finish that exhibits outstanding length. This beauty is quite compact at present and a wine that should age gracefully for years. In a word, excellent. Sweet Spot, Outstanding.
