2019 Chardonnay

Always a very classy wine, this vintage is no exception. A blend of clones and partial mlf really set this off to a silky start. The explosive power of the Gingin clone is kept in check by the tension and citrus line of the Dijon clones, the mlf serving as the glue that binds it all together. Acidity freshens the day, and the spicy fruit hooks you in for a 2nd glass. Lovely stuff.

2017 Cabernet Sauvignon

Mainly a blend of 2 vineyards: Block 12 and Old Block, with a small parcel of Weightmans Block 5. Vinified separately, matured in oak for 18 months. Having stood in all 3 source vineyards, each component is clear in this wine: density from the Old Block, suppleness from the Block 12 and red fruits and brine from the Weightmans Block. Savoury, long, fine-knit and of supreme elegance. It's not intense cabernet, but it is persistent and very long.

2015 Cabernet Sauvignon

50% new French oak. It's as much about texture and length as it is about flavour, though there's certainly no shortage of the latter. It tastes of dark chocolate and coffee, blackcurrant and black licorice, with gum leaf notes adding lift. Tannin. We need to talk about tannin. It's so fine and yet so firm in this wine; it's like a wise old cope, perfect in its under-zealous application of the law. What we have here is a wine perfectly positioned to age magnificently.
