It's not often that we mention Burgundy and value in the same breath, but today we have an exciting Burgundian producer representing excellent value. Philippe and his son Johann are at the helm of Domaine Philippe Robert and offer an outstanding entry into the northern Cote de Nuits, producing delightful wines of balance and concentration. The family also has exceptionally close ties with the highly regarded Rousseau's of Gevrey-Chambertin. Although this put them on our radar, it was the quality of the wines that grabbed our attention.

2019 Marsannay - 'Champs-Perdrix'
Usually $59 - Special Offer - $55
100% de-stemmed Pinot Noir from a 1.1 acre vineyard. Champs Perdrix is the iconic vineyard of Marsannay. Sitting at the top of the village backing right up to the combe and surrounded by pine forest. Elevation is around 390 metres above sea level on thin rocky soils over almost pure limestone. Thirty five year old vines, hand picked, five day cold soak followed by a long slow fermentation in old concrete open fermenters, pressed to Burgundy tonneau of which around 30% are new. The wine then spends 18 months in barrel before being assembled for bottling. A wine of wonderful colour, great balance and a mineral element due to the limestone influence. Unique Burgundy.

2019 Fixin 'Entree Deux Velles'
Usually $64 - Special Offer - $58
Pinot Noir from the Domaines 2.47 acre vineyard in Fixin Entre Deux Velles. This is the Domaine’s largest holding and and is a walled vineyard or “clos”. Mid slope vines on heavy limestone soils with an average age of 45 years. Hand picked and de-stemmed to old concrete open fermenters, five day cold soak before a long slow fermentation. Pressed to tonneau of which 30% are new for an elevage of 18 months before bottling. In my opinion this is the Domaines Vin de Garde, powerful yet restrained, concentrated and long. This wine will easily see out a decade in the cellar.
