“The 2019 Beaune Les Bressandes 1er Cru, which contains 20% whole bunch, has an introspective bouquet, traces of Earl Grey and flint emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and good grip. There is a little more backbone here compared to the Tuvilains or Cents Vignes, and black pepper and clove toward the finish. Another fine Beaune Premier Cru from David Croix.”

Sweet spot. Outstanding. “Once again there are plenty of floral nuances to the earthy sauvage-infected aromas. There is evident muscle to the seriously intense and equally precise, indeed even chiseled, middle weight flavors that are supported by dense but relatively fine tannins shaping the gorgeously long finale. This is a terrific Grèves and absolutely worthy of your interest provide you're willing to cellar it for at least 7 to 8 years. This too is excellent.”

“It has a very precise, mineral-driven bouquet of vibrant blackberry and raspberry mixed with briar, graphite and light tobacco scents; there is good complexity here. The palate is well balanced with crunchy red fruit, a superb line of acidity and real intensity and spiciness on the finish. 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

“The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru contained so much dry extract that David Croix decided to rack it into older barrels after 12 months instead of into vat. You can tell on the nose what Croix means, because this has a very phenolic bouquet featuring waxy/resinous aromas, peach skin and linseed oil. The palate is rounded and generous, lovely, almost oily in texture, offering enticing notes of apricot, lemon thyme, peach skin and ginger notes, and candied and slightly honeyed on the finish. This is a fabulous Corton-Charlemagne that will be fascinating to revisit once bottled.”
