Domaine de l’Eveche
A small family-run Domaine of just over 12 hectares, purchased by the Joussier family in 1985, with vines initially known to have been cultivated in the middle ages, situated in Saint-Denis de Vaux, tucked away in the heart of the Cote Chalonnaise “value” area of Burgundy. An excellent range of regional wines which have regularly received a “Star” from the Guide Hachette (France's best-selling wine guide).

Prices across the Cote de Beaune and Cotes de Nuits are skyrocketing, and finding the 'value' in Burgundy is becoming more and more challenging. Recently, we had the pleasure of tasting the Cote Chalonnaise wines of Domaine de l'Eveche and were impressed at how good they were. As we begin to look elsewhere, the wines of the Cote Chalonnaise are demonstrating how fantastic they are for a much more approachable price.
Domaine de l'Eveche is just one of these great producers of the Cote Chalonnaise that can't boast about Grand Cru climats such as in the Cote de Beaune or Cote de Nuits. Still, it certainly offers an outstanding value drinking experience nevertheless.

2020 Mercurey'Les Ormeaux' Blanc

There is a bit more oak here in the 'Les Oremeaux', but it certainly has the fruit weight to stay in balance. Fermentation and ten months of aging in 1/3 new oak create a delicious smokey savouriness in the wine and a remarkably round and textured mouthfeel. Generous and complex,this is an excellent example of Mercurey blanc.

2019 Mercurey 'Les Murgers' Rouge

The 'Murgers' Lieu-dit sits high on top of a hill to the very east of the Mercurey village. Extremely stony-calcareous soils impart a wonderful minerality in this wine adding to the assortment of herbal and red-fruited flavours. Elegant and silky tannins coat the palate and are already well integrated making the wine delightfully approachable now.
