After cutting his teeth in the Napa Valley as an apprentice winemaker followed by considerable stints at Mornington mainstays Stonier and Yabby Lake, it's fair to say that Tod Dexter has earned his place as one of the Peninsula's great producers of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
As well as the classic white label Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Tod's latest release, includes the utterly delicious 2019 Black Label Pinot Noir and the first release of the sublimely balanced 2020Black Label Chardonnay. 2021 Chardonnay

Aromas of citrus fruits, particularly grapefruit and lemon, and white peach, with subtle oak.
Consistent with previous vintages in its elegance and fineness after an ideal 2021 growing season. Subtle flavours reflective of the aromas – particularly lemon, grapefruit, stone fruit and elegant oak. The wine has a soft middle palate with good length and refreshing acid. Similar in structure and flavour to the 2019 vintage at the same age.

2021 Pinot Noir

Aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, bay leaf and thyme with subtle floral fragrance and hints of oak.
Complex flavours as suggested by the aromas. It has a soft entry with midpalate fruit sweetness and lovely texture. Fine tannins and balanced acidity result in a wine with good texture and length. An elegant example of Dexter Pinot Noir, very similar to the 2019 in quality.

2020 Black Label Chardonnay
Usually $94 - Special Offer $89
Golden colour. Perfumed, some mint too, nuts, honey, cinnamon and cedar, grapefruit and white nectarine. It’s tight and fine, bright in citrus acidity, but supple too, powdery texture, saline and nutty, with a very long finish. A striking wine, and I like its oxidative sort of non-fruity style too. Very adult. And excellent.

2019 Black Label Pinot Noir

Stylish, effortless, and gentle style here. Autumnal Pinot Noir featuring spicy poached strawberry, cherry, a little floral, a subtle mint perfume. It’s feathery and light, but as it takes the air the fine-grained tannin makes its presence known, especially on the long finish. Delightful. Obviously I really liked it.
