It's always exciting to discover a new winery just starting its journey, and for us, none more so than Juliard Wines. Juliard is the husband and wife team of Julia and Bernard Morey, daughter in law and son of Beechworth icons Barry and Jen Morey of Sorrenberg fame.
After spending years across all aspects of the wine industry, Julia and Bernard have turned their focus to their own project with grand plans to create wines of elegance and complexity. Not to be trading off the oldies names, but this is the second generation of Moreys from Sorrenberg – Bernard and Julia. Julia + Bernard = Juliard. Chardonnay a gimme with a Morey last name, right?
Beautiful wine, graceful and quietly powerful, concentrated but lifted on chewy, flinty acidity met with subtle, oatmeal and cashew nut detail. It slips along and then finds pucker and chalkiness, a saline minerality in tow. It’s a stellar chardonnay, unashamed of its origins and proudly flavoursome yet vividly fresh.
