The 19 hectare Domaine Vrignaud is located in the village of Fontenay-Près-Chablis, in the middle of the Premier Cru Fourchaume vineyards. It is a typical Chablisien village, founded in 1130 by the Commanderie of the Templars, and its 12th-century church is the oldest in the area. The Vrignaud family has worked its estate for five generations, with the first vines planted in 1955, and these still produce the premier cru Chablis Fourchaume Les Côtes De Fontenay to this day.
Every parcel of vines is harvested and vinified separately to express the potential of each plot of land fully. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Constant refinement of their techniques has resulted in refined and long-lived wines, which can also be enjoyed in their youth. The wines from Domaine Vrignaud are expressive, elegant, sophisticated, and exude all the classic characteristics that have made Chablis so sought after over the years.

Blended a month ago to marry the tank component with the 30% which was in 500 litre wood. Limpid pale straw. Delicious bouquet, lively fresh marine notes then a little fleshier fruit, plums, the oak is expertly integrated good length.

All made in tank, racked after the malolactic. Pale lemon colour with a tingling crushed mineral nose, very good for Fourchaume. Very pretty soft light red fruit here, and good length. A touch of iodine behind. Give this two to three years minimum.

Domaine Vrignaud has no grand cru vineyard, so their Côtes de Fontenay fulfils that function. It comes from an old selection massale planting in 1955, given two years maturation before bottling. The 2017 is an exceptional wine. Pure clear primrose in colour, an elegant stylish nose, unforced and very classy. The fruit on the palate is beautifully nuanced, offering a seamless energy, without undue weight yet exceptionally persistent. Yes please!
