Badia a Coltibuono & La Torre

The rolling landscape of Tuscany is home to the world's greatest expressions of Sangiovese. Earlier this week, we tasted the Sangiovese from two incredible Tuscan producers; Badia a Coltibuono from the Chianti region and La Torre from Montalcino.
The wines of both producers we're stunningly elegant and delicate while maintaining real complexity and concentration. It is certainly worth taking the time to familiarise yourself with these.

Badia a Coltibuono
"Roberto Stucchi is one of the great winegrowers in Italy. The key here is his longtime cultivation of his own plant material, which, coupled with the clay-limestone soils, brings rich and on-point wine. Aged in large casks, the Chianti Classico and Riserva are blends of Sangiovese and native varieties, while the Sangioveto is 100% Sangiovese, aged in barrique."

2017 Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG
Usually $99 - Special Offer $92
"The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva is laced with cinnamon, blood orange, wild cherry, tobacco and incense, all of which give it a decidedly exotic flair. The 2017 is a rich, dense Riserva, but I would prefer to drink it on the airy side, before it starts to lose its freshness and vibrancy."

La Torre
“Each year I enjoy a special fascination with the wines made by La Torre di Luigi Anania. That’s because they always promise purity and tradition.”
“If you enjoy the traditional side of Montalcino, Luigi Anania’s La Torre makes some of the best and most consistent wines you will find.”

2019 Rosso di Montalcino DOC
Usually $69 - Special Offer $62
"Made with organic fruit, La Torre's 2019 Rosso di Montalcino reveals inner gloss and shine with bright berry aromas, cassis, cranberry, blood orange and hints of rust or iron ore. The wine tiptoes with care over the palate, offering fruit and freshness along the way to liven the senses. This is a lithe, ethereal expression that I highly recommend for its elegance."

2017 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Usually $139 - Special Offer $129
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is silky, smooth and very expressive. The whole theme of the 2017 vintage sees a tug-of-war between power and elegance. In many cases, power wins in 2017 and elegance is sidelined. Not here. Made with organic fruit, this is a delicate and graceful expression of Sangiovese with bright red fruit, cassis, lilac, earth and lavender essence. With fruit from a cool 420 meters in elevation, this is one of the standout bottles of the vintage."
