"In previous years this release looked radically different from the villages bottling—more linear, racy and mineral—more Brézé. This year, the two wines share more resemblance, though the Moulins bottling reveals more layers, extract and phenolic structure. As always, you can expect a greater measure of chiselled intensity on the palate: it’s a saline, mouth-watering and lucid Chenin from Saumur’s top drawer."

"Made entirely from destemmed grapes, this fruit-forward bottling was naturally fermented in concrete before spending 12 months in large tronconique barrels. In the classic style of this wine, it’s impressively lucid and super-succulent, with sweet red cherry flavours giving way to persistent, gently grippy and refreshing tannins on a long, layered and gratifying finish. The 2020 really grows in the glass, so give this a quick decant."

2019 Saumur Rouge 'Bizay - Les Chapaudaises'

"Guiberteau calls Les Chapaudaises a “terroir for freshness”; the soils are very acidic and the deep roots benefit from the strong water retention of the underlying limestone. It’s the most elegant red in this release, flowing with lithe, crisp raspberry and cherry fruit with hints of tobacco and spice. The tannins are wispy and fresh, bringing Pinot-like shape and structure to the finish.
