It's hard to imagine a busier person in the Australian wine scene than Andrew Marks. Between making his MGC (Melbourne Gin Company) Gins and his personal wine labels, The Wanderer and its Spanish sister, El Wanderer, Mark still has time to continue his incredible family legacy at Gembrook Hill Vineyard.
Andrew's incredible breadth of knowledge gained by working across the vinous world has granted him the experience to produce some of the Yarra Valley's most consistent wines year after year. Below we have the latest releases from Andrew's Yarra Valley projects, Gembrook Hill Vineyard and The Wanderer. Full of finesse and elegance, these wines are delicious and whilst they are so gentle and approachable now, they may benefit from some time in bottle as well.

2020 Chardonnay
Usually $49 - Special Offer $45
"Made from vines planted in Gembrook in the Upper Yarra in 1983. Whole-bunch pressed into large-format (300 and 500L) old French oak. A medium green gold. Complex with aromas of yellow peach, grapefruit pith and spices. A powerful and creamy textured wine, this will provide enjoyment now and over next 5 or so years."

2021 Pinot Noir
Usually $62 - Special Offer $58
"2021was another cool year, highlighting elegance and suppleness. Classic Gembrook perfume is accentuated by decanting while this wine is young.
It was a long late season, and patience was required in the vineyard for the grapes to achieve perfect maturity.
As has been the case in recent years, careful fruit sorting in the vineyard by the winemaking team at picking was essential to deliver pristine fruit."

2021 I.J.M Pinot Noir
Usually $99 - Special Offer $90
"In 2017 the visceral reaction to the sudden death of Ian was to produce a wine in his honour. This was a tiny batch of Pinot Noir drawn from a portion of the oldest Pinot vines on the property, and a third drawn from the newest MV6 young vines. This blend represented something of the snake eating its own tail – the Ouroboros or symbol for eternal cyclic renewal. In other words, recognition that Gembrook Hill had become a legacy vineyard for our family. The IJM, Ian James Marks, was made as a pure expression of site, matured in old French oak to allow terroir to shine through. A quintessential vigneron's wine, to reflect Ian's passion for the vineyard."

2021 J.K.M Pinot Noir
Usually $99- Special Offer $90
"The intention for this wineis to explore both new viticultural and wine making techniques, while still capturing the essence of the vineyard. The viticultural technique is shoot selection - a refinement of shoot thinning which we have always used in the vineyard. This serves to open up the canopy, reducing disease risk and increasing sunlight into the canopy, while producing more intense fruit. The winemaking technique is the use of some whole bunch fermentation from our newest plantings of Pinot which was then matured in a new French hogshead. This made up a third of the wine while the restcomes from destemmed young vine fruit. There were two barrels of this, both matured in old french oak.
The result is a bold, complex, aromatic Pinot with plenty of flavour."

2021 Upper Yarra Valley Chardonnay
Usually $41 - Special Offer $36
"I love the purity of this wine. And it’s only going to get better.
Pear and green apple, lactose and honeysuckle, white peach and cedar, perhaps even some shells. It feels elegant and effortless as it shoots through to a long finish. Pop this in a cool dark place for a couple of years and it’ll do better than money in the bank."

2021 Yarra Valley Pinot Noir
Usually $41 - Special Offer $36
"In the context that this is always made in the light-but-insistent style, this particular release is something of a powerhouse. It’s a powerhouse of structure, spice and intent, rather than in weight or intensity of fruit. It smells friendly enough, all berried and floral, but the palate is wild with herbs, twigs, tannin, acid, cranberry and red cherry flavour. It feels and tastes serious in a dry, tannic, savoury way, and it has nutty, smoky length aplenty. You have to like the style. of course, but if you do this is pretty damn beautiful, with the charm to go with it."

2019 Upper Yarra Valley Pinot Noir
Usually $60 - Special Offer $52
"This is a terrifically attractive Pinot Noir. In brand-new-release terms I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen such an inherently complex, and settled, release under this label. It’s expressive of undergrowth and strawberry, ripe red cherry, orange oil, sweet spice and more; not quite Unami but certainly savoury. It’s set with acid-riven tannin, which suggests that it will age beautifully over the medium term or longer, but it’s already on song for drinking."
